  • ...no fury like me without diary!

I love everything dairy, I may get 3-5 serves of it daily. 2-3 of yoghurt, in coffees, cheese if it's around, etc.

I know it's not Paleo, because we didn't eat it 10, 000 years ago? We aren't adapted to it and it upsets our stomach? They are the only 2 reasons I know people on Paleo don't eat dairy.

Before I gave up the grains, I was bloated most of the day, felt "heavy", thought it might be milk, or gluten, tried to work out which, couldn't really... though not drastically over-weight I was yo-yoing, over-eating, etc etc.

Then I cut out the grains, but upped the dairy, especially the yoghurt. My stomach has never felt better, my weight is perfect, I'm satiated and not over-eating and I'm building muscle much more effectively.

So does it really matter that we didn't eat it 10,000 years ago?

My opinion is, if it disagrees with you, stop eating it. If it's doing you good, eat it.

      A) Raw dairy is ok, in moderation, in the PB.

      B) What the guy above me said. Eat it if you like it and if your body is OK with it. I personally eat about 2-3 oz of raw cheese daily, when it's in the house.

it's always Greek or Natural Yoghurt, nothing added, milk, cream cheese/ricotta/cottage - and yellow cheese if I'm "bad" :P
Always full fat and not "diet"

PB- milk products are OK if you tolerate it... with preference given to full fat raw and/or cultured dairy.

And that's why I'm here eating HFLC Primal/Paleo.

These medicinal and life giving foods included yogurt, kefir, aged cheeses, fermented beverages, sauerkraut, pickled fruits and veggies, sourdough breads…These superfoods had a reputation of maintaining good digestion, promoting regular elimination, supporting detoxification, enhancing fertility, immunity and much more!
From here: Cultured and Fermented Foods | Wise Roots Nutrition

And while I realize that bread isn't Primal, I've heard tell (and I think Mark has mentioned it in the blog somewhere), there's a southern CA vendor of 'magic' sourdough bread that is so real and fermented that even people with wheat issues can eat it and not get sick.

Don't eat those yellow blocks of Artificial Cheese Food Product from the grocery store, but do eat lovely fermented cheeses from cows, goats, and sheep.

Life without good red wine, cheese, and olives - positively uncivilized!

I have quite a bit of pastured dairy: cheese, sour cream, butter, yogurt, cream and milk (pastured, minimally pasteurized, local, non-homogenized). Works for me. Primal is not the same as paleo. What Grok ate is a starting point not a rigid rule.

Yes, I know. Even minimal pasteurization destroys enzymes and probiotics. Humans do not have to get those from milk. Grok sure didn't.

Like everyone has said, don't worry about it! I bet your parents or ancestors were drinking milk and dairy for a long time so your genes would be adapted to it, I know mine have. Maybe your great grandmother was a Swedish goat herder

I would however limit your intake to around 1 glass of milk a day, it's your body so listen to it. I've got no issue with dairy only the over consumption and processes of pasteurization. I've heard and I'm not sure if its a myth but milk actually leeches calcium from your bones instead of giving you calcium, in other words don't supplement milk for osteoporosis.

                          Phew, relief, sensible attitudes.

I don't know about everyone else, but I become a bit weary of the "is this paleo", "is that primal", "would Grok have eaten this", "am I allowed to eat this" questions. The vast majority of us are not interested in recreating Grok's lifestyle to the letter - we would have a hard job in any case - we eat/live primally because it makes us look and feel better. I like Mark's attitude in combining a primal lifestyle with modern day ways as long as they don't compromise our health.

So, no, I don't believe it does matter. If you're ok with dairy and it's ok with you then why shouldn't you go for it. Sadly it doesn't like me much, so I try to stay away. But my view is, if it doesn't compromise your health then eat what you want to eat.
