  • I am very sensitive to carbs and actually go out of ketosis at anything over 25g a day.

But my body seems to love eating very low carb, so it doesn't bother me.

I have been researching protein needs. This is what I found...

      Sedentary Adult Female 46grams
      Sedentary Adult Male 56 grams

Light exerciser .8 x weight in kg
      Moderate exerciser 1 - 1.5 x weight in kg
Heavy Daily exerciser / athlete Max 2.5 x wt. in kg

The general concensus was that We eat too much protein and the body can thrive on much less even if you exercise daily without cannibalizing muscle.
Thanks for this Pebbles, I am a daily exerciser so can now work out what I need....

I'm not totally sure, but I'm pretty sure. I had a similar amount of protein yesterday as I've had on other days (fat also) but I never got as high as 30g of carbs on other days so I'm thinking that was it.

Well done on your amazing weight loss. Have you noticed any positive results taking the gelatin yet?

This is what I try to do on the rare occasions someone notices. "Oh really? It must be my outfit." So much easier, and also, it does not set me up for that weird rebound I have, when I get recognition for losing weight, and immediately start gaining it back again.

@Rosemary- thanks for posting about the Fat Fast Cookbook. Dana writes great recipes, and I'm going to hop over and get this book tonight. I think it will be a real help.

OMG IT'S NOT A MYTH. This whole time I've been thinking "don't tell anyone you've lost weight, then it'll be cursed. " Happens every damn time.
The process is simple: Free your mind, and your ass will follow.

Some people do better with a percentage of fat intake between 70-80% of calories.
Not sure how HFLC is affecting cholesterol, but since I believe the tests are flawed, I don't really care.
Look up the thread "Griff's cholesterol primer" her on MDA

I do HFLC for a binge eating disorder, cancer prevention and weight loss.
Hi Pebbles67, I was probably eating around 60-70% fat when VLC, probably overdid the protein, getting around 120-150g per day.
I have read Griff's primer many times since my Cholesterol started rising 2 years ago. And I understand,I think!, the thinking behind everyone saying with good HDL and low trigs the LDL is likely to be the large, fluffly type.
But reading various sites, my LDL seems really high compared to most people who post their numbers on here. Also had my Apo A& B numbers checked recently, they didn't come out too well, the ratios weren't good.

                      • Last night, eating was a bust. I'm going through some issues and for the first time in my life I am not reaching for food. The problem is, I do not want to eat so I am finding that I have to force myself to eat. Last night was a good example of this. My husband and I went to a wings place for dinner and I typically order a salad from there with some grilled chicken. He was so concerned about me not having an appetite that he asked me not to eat the salad. So I got these potato skins with pulled pork to make him happy and I ate those and didn't feel too bad this morning. I also ate a few chicken wings and when I woke up, my asthma was bothering me a bit. I'm making myself eat right now. I just really have no appetite whatsoever and nothing even remotely sounds appetizing.

                        • I found this BF% calculator which is supposedly used by the US Navy so I guess it ought to be fairly accurate.

Unfortunately when I put my measurements in (waist, hips, neck & height) I got 33.79% If only!!!

The male one is the same as the one used by the army and is off by as much as 8-10%. In other words it is absolutely useless. Perhaps the female version is better. To give you my real life example, the day before leaving for basic training I had my body fat measured two ways by a doctor - One was something like 16.4% the other was 17.2% (electronic and callipers). The next day I had it calculated by the Army using the method on the site you linked. It was found to be 25.8%. The method is used because it is quick, easy, and anyone with a tape measure can do it. Accuracy is secondary.

                            • Update: TERRIBLE leg cramps last night. I think I "slept" standing up most of the night. Very dizzy and lightheaded this morning. Not a good day for this, because I am super busy today! Started the day with a double boulion cube. We shall see. On a good note...my size 12's are hanging on me.! Yay! Have a good day everyone!

                              • Back on track with eating and exercise. Made those cream cheese clouds last night, had a few too many, but who cares, they were worth it. Will be keeping those in check moving forward though.
