    Does dairy stop your weight loss or make it slower?
    Just curious about others personal experiences with it.

    No. Eating a week of 1200 cal/day (and 14-1500 on Sat & Sun) results in the same weight loss no matter what foods I consume. Generally 1-3 pounds/wk when more than 50 pounds overweight and 1-2 pounds/wk under that amount.

    The only thing that slows my weight loss is alcohol.

    Who says back fat is a bad thing? Maybe on a hairy guy at the beach, but not on a crab.

      Joanie, how many times have you dropped that much weight? Maybe severe calorie restriction isnt the answer?

        A few. This time, I have the "after" plan. And I'm not setting the "thinner than everyone else," goal. I've always known I can drop weight and also always known that I don't do well keeping it off (longest time was six years). I'm an emotional eater. I've always looked at losing weight as a goal oriented thing. Now, health is more the goal, and if I'm not as thin as the cute little 20year old upstairs, I'm not worried.

        I do believe calorie restriction is the only way to lose weight. But after that, you can't go back to the way you used to eat or it will all come back. Hopefully I've finally learned. But if not, I'll just climb back on. I'm very close to a decent weight for me and some people think I don't need to lose any more. 1200 calories is really very comfortable if you don't waste your calories on things like bread, pasta, and ice cream. It's a nice amount of food.

            and yep I agree Joanie 1200 is plenty of food for me when I eat plenty of fats My BMR is around 1600 so hardly cutting a huge amount of calories.

              Could be wrong here, but aren't you supposed to avoid eating under your BMR?

                to lose weight you eat less than your BMR to create a deficit.

                    Um, I think you mean TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure). BMR is if you quite literally lie around in bed all day and do nothing.

                    Might wanna look into it - could be eating more than you think. ^_^

                      Sorry but all I asked was if people know that dairy affects their weight loss.
                      1200 a day is my upper limit, most days I don't get that much anyway, and I couldn't possibly make myself eat more.
                      So yeah, thanks.

                        How can I be eating more than I think?
                        I know counting calories is not exact, but its close enough.

                        DO you mean you think I am eating more than I need? I am eating what I need, and yes its working so far so yeah.

                          One TDEE calculator comes up with 2800 approx.
                          I am not going to eat that much. And the same website mentions BMR.
                          Doesn't matter not going to count anymore anyway, I know what i need to eat.

                            To get back to the topic..............................

                            Dairy for me is too high carb in the just straight up milk form. I do use high fat dairy items such as raw butter and cream and aged raw cheeses. I also like fermented dairy such as kefir and labne.

                            Regular Kraft type cheese makes me all stuffy in the sinuses and generally bloated everywhere. So I think the quality of the dairy product matters.
