Hmm. Well, I could spend 2 weeks tracking down a bunch of "studies" that largely make use of the Nurses Health Study data, or I can re-post the link you probably didn't read from before:

That's what I'm having for breakfast tomorrow, all those pork meats, plus pork roll (a different sort of sausage that seems to only exist in and around NJ). Quadrifecta?

        • Gorbags personal meat recommendations – take it or leave it:

Red meat: once a week, limited to one pound for most people
White meat: 2-4 days a week
Fish and seafood: minimum 1 and maximum 3 days a week
Pork/bacon: not more than twice a month
Organs: minimum once a month and maximum once a week
          Eggs: ad libitum

            • Here's the thing about research - most researchers aren't millionaires funding their own research. In addition, most research starts with a skewed hypothesis. Eg. Red meat causes heart disease. or: Grain eaters live longer.

Dependent upon funding means that the research is going to be skewed toward the goal of the company that provided the money. A skewed hypothesis means the researcher is already biased in one direction or another. Put those two together, and most "research" is merely a collection of events chosen to prove the hypthesis.

In defense of those scientists with the integrity or wherewithal to do truly unbiased research and publish actual results, well I'm guessing BigFood doesn't hire them much and they sadly spend much of their careers begging for money.

                • What would you rather have: Carnitas or soda?

How you respond will determine whether I take you seriously or not.

                  • Carnitas.

Here's why I don't like soda and have maybe drunk one per year in the last two decades. It doesn't quench thirst because most are cloyingly sweet. It's stupidly expensive for water + sugar/sugar substitute + chemicals. There may be a rat carcass in the bottom of the can.

I'm planning to make the carnita recipe that was recently posted on this site. Looks like many people are raving about it. Bought the pork shoulder today.
I guess I'll just have to take my chances with that. LOL

                              • I don't buy it. Any of it.

Even Chris Kresser has said the levels of O6 in pork or chicken aren't much to worry about.

I eat pork a lot, mostly CAFO. But we also eat lots of bacon, but this stuff is from an excellent local farm, and they don't feed their pigs any garbage.
