  • Ladies!!! How many calories do you eat?...

And how many from fat, protein, and carbs?

I'm wanting to lose body fat, but the amount of fat I'm eating is freaking me out a little... I am eating mostly nuts, vegetables, and lean protein... The large amounts of fat come from the nuts, avocado, and eggs (and about 13g from a Kind Bar, which I'm eliminating after I finish the ones I have).

How many of you eat real butter?

I'm just curious about what other females following this lifestyle are eating and if you are seeing positive results. Anyone seeing loss of cellulite? Do you get bloodwork done and are the results good (low triglycerides, cholesterol, etc)?

I don't want to sound shallow.. I am also doing this for my health.. Cardiovascular disease runs rampant on both sides of my family at very young ages. Even my mom who eats virtually a fat free diet has had 2 heart attacks and she's only 58. My dad had a QUINTUPLE bypass in September.. scariest time ever! I'm trying this because "fat free" just doesn't work for me.. it makes me hungrier no matter how much or what I eat. I'd appreciate any feedback.

I had "high" cholesterol, which seems to run in my family. I was on statins for about a year, and then I realized I was wasting my money and gambling with my health, so I stopped taking them. I'd never liked eggs before, but then I started eating eggs and bacon every day when I switched to paleo and my cholesterol went down. I don't remember the numbers, but it was low enough to make me feel pretty smug. I also lost 25lbs. I know it was mostly fat I lost, because I was lifting progressively heavier weights the whole time. My macros are generally 50% fat, 30% protein, 20% carbs - and yes, many of us eat copious amounts of butter!

Breastfeeding, so up to 2000. At least 60% is fat. I've also upped my carbs, so the remaining percentage there is broken up with the protein. Protein usually has the higher percentage though (usually around 25%)

Fat is not the enemy for everyone!

I eat 1200 calories, and 70 % fat, 10 % carbs, and 20 % protein. For me carbs are what stops me losing weight.
And yep damn straight I eat real butter
You have to work out which variation of this lifestyle that works for you.

Have you read much about this primal lifestyle? Fake fats and sugars are the problems for cholesterol, not fats from animals, full fat dairy etc.

And sorry to say but after all the threads that get started on here, where people argue about their way being right, its probably best to do some searches on here to read.
There are tons of people who changed to the primal lifestyle, with higher fat, maybe not as high as 70% like me though, who have had huge improvements in their blood results.

In my initial weight loss phase, fats came from eggs, bacon, sausage, liver, steak with the fat on, real butter, creme fraiche, sour cream, cheese (sometimes with butter on top), chicken skin, pork belly, salmon, beef tallow etc. Eating lots of real animal fat was the key for me. It controlled my hunger. It relieved inflammation in my joints. It improved my mood.

I'm not losing weight anymore and eat less fat than I used to, but I still eat real butter and triple-creme brie.

In my case, basically everything I thought I knew had to be turned upside-down and inside-out.

I finally started losing weight by cutting carbs in my case fruit and increasing fat. 20 pounds off since June after losing only 5 pounds in two years. Yes, I eat butter, goat and sheep cheeses, avocado, sausages, coconut oil, initially coconut butter when hungry (don't need it any more as I am never hungry) bacon, and cook in bacon fat or coconut oil, or butter. good luck on your health quest. Giving up grains and sugar eliminated my joint pain.

Calories? No idea. I don't count them.

And how many from fat, protein, and carbs?
Don't count those either. *most of the time* I just eat mostly meat, fat, cooked & raw veggies, eggs, a little fruit, a little yogurt & cheese. I'm not militant, I'm far from perfect, I stray.

Eat the fat! Tastes awesome, keeps you full longer. Oh and it tastes awesome. Humans evolved and thrived eating animal fats up until margarine was invented 100 years ago.

How many of you eat real butter?
                Every day. Sometimes straight up.

I'm just curious about what other females following this lifestyle are eating and if you are seeing positive results.
Dropped 2 pants sizes and 2 bra sizes in a year. I have no idea how that is measured in pounds. I don't weigh myself.

                Anyone seeing loss of cellulite?
Don't have much to begin with. Did you know its hereditary?

Do you get bloodwork done and are the results good (low triglycerides, cholesterol, etc)?
                Nope.

I think its been proven that 'fat free' causes more heart attacks than it prevents.

Just eat real food. Avoid seed oils, wheat, corn and soy in ALL forms. That should eliminate about 90% of the crap food from your diet. Which will be good for your heart.

Hi Nivia, welcome to the primal lifestyle. I've had good results both health and weight wise and can echo almost everything that Sandra said.

I do not count calories or macros but just vaguely aim for "enough" protein, "not too many" carbs, and make up the rest with fat.

While I was losing weight I ate mainly meat, eggs and veges.

Breakfast would be omelette with mushrooms and silverbeet fried in butter. Dinner mainly meat and veges, some butter or fat from the meat, sour cream etc, but go easy on the starchy veges. No rice, pasta or potatoes at this time. Lunch was usually leftovers so the same again. Or a meat and vege soup, or a big salad with greens, chicken and olive oil dressing.

I did not snack much and the weight fell off me without feeling hungry or deprived. Even better, my blood pressure and pulse rate came down into a very healthy range.

I started exercise a few months before I changed to primal and while I did get fitter and stronger I did not see the weight loss or improved BP readings until I dropped the grains (my diet was otherwise fairly wholesome already).

I do not think it is shallow to want to lose weight if you need to. The other benefits kick in at the same time, it's all related. I found mood swings and insomnia also went away with this lifestyle.

                    Good luck.

You don't have to focus on numbers - but I personally like them) So: I am 5ft 10, around 145 pounds, 16-18% bodyfat. I seem to have the best fat loss results if I eat my maintenance calories (just over 2000 kcal/day), keeping to around 60% fat, 30% protein and 10% carbs, while doing one carb refeed a week when I probably eat about 3000 kcals a day and about 40% of it comes from carbs. I lift heavy weights 4 times a week and walk a lot - weight lifting certainly is a big help when it comes to fatloss and reshaping your body. I have just started Crossfit too, so will see how it works.
For more effective fatloss, I would limit the nuts for a while and try to get most of the fat from protein sources (meat/eggs) and good fats (butter, ghee, coconut, olive etc). For me nuts are a no-go area if I want to lose fat quicky. I love them so much though that it is very difficult to stay away. If you have enough determination and want a quicker fatloss, straight paleo would be best - just meat, fish, veggies and fat/oils. Clean diet reduces inflammation and rebalances hormones so that it is easier to lose fat. That said, it is too restrictive for me - I did it for a couple of months and lost about 5% of bodyfat (from 22% to 17%) but I like my treats too much
                      Good luck!

I have been primal for about a month now. Have not weighed myself, but I think I have lost a little bit.

I really don't understand how ratios (70% fat, 20% protein etc) equate into the food on my plate. I just eat fatty meat with some vegetables, eggs, cheese, olives etc.

I think I will make a list of what I eat post it and get some advice.

Yep, honestly I'm not concerned either. I eat what I want and let the macros fall where they may. I don't really feel any differently either way.

I've been pretty much primal (hadn't read the book until a few months ago though) since nov 2011. I did not count calories until a few days ago. I've lost about 35 lbs and want to lose 10-15 more (of course, I said that 5 lbs ago ha but I think that should stick this time). I have stalled at this point so I am now counting everything. Ugh. But I am eating 1,300 calories per day, around 100 grams fat, 65 grams protein and 35 carbs. Hopefully I can finally get lean! But as is, my stomach shape is quite flat, I've lost a lot of my weight from my belly. And yes, I never had a lot of cellulite, but what I had is probably 80-90% gone. By that I mean, if I squish my leg I can see a little, there is none visible just standing or sitting like normal.
