I dropped 80 pounds (Oct 09 through Jan '11). Did it on a CW low fat/high protein/high carb diet. Got super active (chronic cardio). Unfortunately I've put most of that weight back on now, but I'm super eager to get back to running 5k's. I definitely attribute the low carb life to keeping my a1c in check. It was right around 5.5 for at least a year. Now that I'm back on the pump, it's been 5.1 & 5.2 at last 2 check ups.

The days when I am struggling with wanting potatoes and rice I wonder if I could just lose weight and fix the diabetes without caring about carbs. I know the ultimate answer to that But it sounds good.

I was diagnosed with T2 when I eas admitted to the hospital for a respiratory infection about 8 yrs ago. The drs. than put me on 2 diabetic meds, high blood pressure meds, chokestrol meds. The last two because I had a family history of high bp and all gp's died of heart attack or stroke. My brother who is a year older had two heart attacks already.

A couple of years ago I joined a gym. Cardio was not helping. I got a pt. Little by little the dr reduced than eliminated my meds. He didn't have a choice. I was getting so nauseated during exercise he had to do something. A couple of times I almost passed out. By a fluke I started to check my bp before and after exercise. The days I was most nauseated by bp dropped considerably. Doc thought this was very abnormal so sent me to get several echocardiograms. Once I had to wear a portable one for 48hrs.

Other than having a heart murmer my heart showed no damage or abnormalties. So he took me off hbp and statins. weaned me off diabetes. Every time I would get nauseated he brought the dose lower. When I got consistantly low (generally in the 20-30.) he took me off permantly.

When I started the journey I was wearing a tight 24. Now at an 18. Plan to get lower but have had to many cheats.

I know its a journey. i am like you, trying to get lower. I did great all year and the damn holidays killed me. I have figured out that canola oils, vegetable oils, seed oils, all those oils that things like chips or corn chips are cooked in makes my sinus' completely clog up to the point of vertigo. I think I have finally figured out how to convince myself not to eat them. It just took me a while to make the connection..<face palm>

Yes sometimes I cave to peer pressure. When peanutbutter cups or plain chocolate mock me, I fight back by eating them.

Thanks TorMag. I will. Is the Blood Sugar Solution the same as The Diabetes Solution? Dr. Bernstein?
My father is Type II, on insulin and does nothing to take care of himself. Apparently he did something to his toe and ignored it because it 'didn't hurt'. On Sunday my sister saw it and realized the toe above the nail was black and the entire foot was completely swollen. She and my mother had to fight tooth and nail to get him to the Dr. because he kept saying it didn't hurt, it was fine. He is now on major antibiotics and they are doing x-rays and a Doppler study to see where the circulation stops. So...when I get cravings I can just think of my toe.

Blood sugar solution is a different thing. It does work, my n=1 worked really well. Dad's can be a pain in the arse sometimes. We all know everything and are right all the time....
