  • How long to restore gut flora from antibiotics

How long does it take to restore gut flora? I was put on an anti-fungal to treat yeast but it seems to have killed off good bacteria as well. I have been on good probiotics for a long time but it didnt seem to prevent this from happening. How much should I take and how soon should I notice improvements again!

taking a good pro-biotic while on something that may be actively killing is just a waste of money and diluting the effectiveness of the antibiotic/anti-fungal After to rebuild... no clue.

Probiotics won't stop your gut bacteria from dying, it will just replace what does with new stuff. Sometimes more dies off than gets replaced and you still have to give your levels a while to recover. If you want, you can try adding in some fermented veggies to increase your level of probiotic intake even further.

But you may have other issues at play as well that go beyond the whole probiotic and gut bacteria issue. Perhaps you need to get more soluable fiber in your diet which acts as a PREbiotic for gut bacteria because it uses this fiber as a food source. This supports the health of the bacteria, keeping it alive longer, rather than simply replacing (what might be) quickly dying bacteria. It doesn't, in my opinion, do much good to simply replace gut bacteria that dies rapidly. If you have a reason to suspect this is what is happening, it might make more sense to ask yourself why it's dying rapidly and address that first, and THEN look to normalizing your levels of gut bacteria.

The metal in my head clangs and clings as I walk - freaks my balance out. So the natural thought is just clogged up. Totally clogged up. So we need to unplug these dams, and make the the natural flow... It sort of freaks me out. We need to unplug the dams. You cannot stop the natural flow of thought with a cling and a clang..."

Hi, I'm posting here cause I don't know where to post. I started taking Bactrim today to deal with a 7-month Toxoplasma infection. In addition to taking probiotic kefir regularly anyway, what can I do to prevent or minimize a yeast infection? If I can find them at a reasonable price, I may also take Leucovorine & Pyrimethamine.

Toxoplasmosis? How did you know you had this infection? Like did you have symptoms? Most people contract and deal with it on their own (unless first infection is while pregnant), without even knowing.
            Sorry just interested....

Grapefruit seed extract is antifungal and may assist as a wash or taken internally. GSE might even do the toxo.
Tea tree essential oil and lemon myrtle essential oil are also good bug killers.

Robb Wolf claims in his book that it will take 30 days of good primal/Paleo eating before your gut flora is recovered. I venture a guess that antibiotics do much more damage to you gut flora than bad eating so you might even look at a recovery time of 60 days of really good eating habits.

During the period that you are taking the meds it's no use to take pro-biotics. Ít's a waste of money.
However immediately after you can start up the pro-biotics again to help your body on it's way to recovery.

I've had to take abx a few times since going primal. I tend to eat a lot of fermented foods while on the abx and as soon as I finish the course I start up on probiotics (and continue with extra ferments). I usually just buy one bottle of probiotics and take until it is gone.

What were your symptoms after the anti fungal medication? I think I am going through the same issues. Did you ever recover to normal health and how long did it take?

                  Thank you.

I've taken many antifungals and antibiotics, including bactrim and fluconazole. My biome is now perfect. Kefir, raw unwashed organic greens, and a commercial probiotic contributed to this success. If you do get probiotics, I would recommend the ones with 150+ billion organisms of 10+ different microbes.

As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy and to make plans.
