  • margarine vs. butter

    hello

I had a discussion with a friend recently where I wanted to show him the advantages of omega 3. He told me that he already eats margarine for that reason because it has omega 3 in it.
Then the discussion started, I advocated butter because it is a natural product and contains only good saturated fats.
He said that they make margarine nowadays by converting the vegetable oil into 100% animal fat, they can make pufas into sfas by adding hydrogenium and there was no trans fat part of the process. He said 50 years ago they only partially hydrogenated vegetable oils when trans fats emerged but today they can convert it without trans fats. The benefit of margarine also was that omega 3 was added.
Additionally trans fats were also part of the butter.

What can I tell him? We all know that margarine is worse than butter and that chemically made margarine is not the same as butter. He always tells that it is the same because both would be saturated fatty acids (chemically the same).

I had this same conversation with a coworker the other day...I just said my preference is to eat something that hasn't been chemically altered to make it okay for me to ingest safely.

No matter what you say, only he can change his mind.

He believes you can convert a vegetable into an animal and that there's an element in the universe called hydrogenium. Forget about trying to change his mind.

You are wrong about the hydrogenium. You can make it by passing unobtainium through a nuclear powered flux capacitor. This device will also reanimate dead cells, both animal and vegetable.

Even if you could make that magical conversion...why not just eat the butter?
Eating primal is not a diet, it is a way of life.

If you can't make it at home you shouldn't eat it.

He's eating plastic (hence the clip below "You're eating hair!"). I was trying to convince my mom that margarine is terrible. She said "Well why don't you guys eat butter?" and I said "WE DO!"

Just tell him margarine is not synthetic motor oil, being highly manufactured does NOT make it better than butter, unlike synthetic lubricants compared to minimally processed lubricants. Stress he's a biological entity and not a metallic machine.

                    Also:

                    * margarine is very high in omega 6 - inflammatory
                    * the trans fat in butter is conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) - good for you
                    * the trans fats in margarine are worse for you than the omega 6

There is no good reason to eat margarine
