  • Can I get a definitive answer on cream?

Just tried some heavy cream and absolutely love the stuff... I hear mixed things about it though. On one hand people say "it creates almost no insulin response, it's got next to no casein/lactose... it's basically pure animal fat, the same as beef fat". Then I'll hear (strangely, often the same people) that they don't drink it when they're trying to lose weight, or it hinders weight-loss.

    So which one is it?!

All foods provoke an insulin response (to some degree - sugars/carbs more than fats or protein). The difference is that fat and protein also provoke a glucagon response, while sugars/carbs don't. That is the key - and how much sugar/carb is there in your cream? None in mine.

Haha yep, no sugar in mine either. so should I take that to mean that cream (a fat) produces a glucagon response that somewhat counteracts the insulin effects?

I wear an insulin pump/glucose sensor and have noticed that it takes FOREVER for my sugar to spike when I include heavy cream in my protein shake, and then it's only a tiny blip on the radar.
Dunno if that info helps you or not.
