I guess I kind of do this too. Sometimes it will simply as two 24-hour fasts, and sometimes it will be a true 48-56 hour fast. And I eat once a day otherwise. But I never plan for this to happen. It just sorta... Does.
So as to consciously engaging in the diet, I kinda fail there.
"The cling and a clang is the metal in my head when I walk. I hear a sort of, this tinging noise - cling clang. The cling clang. So many things happen while walking. The metal in my head clangs and clings as I walk - freaks my balance out. So the natural thought is just clogged up. Totally clogged up. So we need to unplug these dams, and make the the natural flow... It sort of freaks me out. We need to unplug the dams. You cannot stop the natural flow of thought with a cling and a clang..."
someone at work has been doing paleo/primal (without knowing it if you get me) and she mentioned 5:2 this week, it's just 2 days of IF, separated in the week.
A lot of us already do 16+ hours IF anyway
I'm going to give it a a go i think, just try and shift the last 8lb or so
2day fast out of the 7days either together or alternate. Your also supposed to do a 4-5day fast once a month or at least every other month. It helps with your body to repair and not to build! I found when i had a cold it went away very quickly when i fasted and took no medication. Also i lost about 9lbs in weight and haven't gained any back and now that i eat sometimes large amounts i've seemed to burn it off quickly!! Metabolism must have been kickstarted. :-)
There's a BBC video linked somewhere in either the Resources or Research part of the forum. It shows a man trying different kinds of fasts to improve various markers in his blood tests.
I don't remember specifics, but basically by eating normally five days per week and eating very restricted calories (400 for women and 500 for men) two days per week, in six weeks, he got the same good results in his blood work as he did by doing a longer fast that was very uncomfortable for him (72? 96? hours). The two days didn't have to be together.
