  • "Advanced" tips and suggestions?

I have been eating primal for a long time now, but this is the first time, I am venturing out without dairy and without fruit. I most definitely have some more weight to lose, and I want to give a final push before the holidays.

I am not addicted to dairy, but most definitely to fruit. I know both these things--dairy and fruit (or sugar)--stall my weight loss.

I am going to do this for 15 days. I am starting today. Now. Any suggestions that will help me pull through this? Yes, other than "plain willpower" to stay away from fruit.

MAke sure you have lots of cleaned celery sticks, cut-up bell peppers, etc... Eat those instead when you get to Jones'ing.

I am fond of plain lettuce. Never thought it would be my go-to snack, but it is. I also have it with my bacon or other meat or fish in the morning. I also keep pickles on hand for a midnight snack.

Another important tip is, get enough sleep. It doesn't seem related but it is. If I feel like crap, I eat crap.

I weigh myself every day to keep myself honest. This however can lead to anxiety if you let it. I don't know much about psychology( is that a song?) but anxiety can lead to panic which leads to all sorts of bad behaviors. A couple weeks ago I wrote 'Relax' on the weight log. I'd had it with trying for the quick weight loss. Interferes with living and working. So I did relax, and the trend is to slowly lose weight while remaining true 90/10% to the primal eating plan. I have lost dairy except my cream in the coffee in the morning, and keep fruit to a minimum. I no longer drink wine every night, and when I do I drink 1/2 glass. Watch portion size. Eat when I am hungry but take care to not overeat, by pausing after a portion and listening to my body. I am active, so I need nutrition.

I put the weight on and screwed up my metabolism over a period of years, so it may take years to fix. I've lost 28 pounds in the last two years, and I want to lose another 14 or so. If it takes me over a year, so be it.

I second this! Especially the more colorful bell peppers. Red bell peppers taste like candy to me <3

Fun Factoid: Yellow Bell Peppers have the highest Vit C ratio per calorie than any other vegetable!

Pre-make your meals. Make 2-3 breaksfasts ahead of time, on plates and ready to go in the frige. Have lunch ready, in compartemented containers in the freezer. And then go to the mall at night and walk around. In other words, you actually have to stay out of the kitchen as much as you can.

Thank you to everyone who replied. This was very helpful!

Yesterday went off well. I had meat and vegetables. Didnt have time to even think about the fruit. Ok, another 14 days to go!

It's weird that you mention it, but I used to be a fruit fiend. I would eat fruit. . . oh 4-6 pieces a day? Lots of fruit.

I went primal about two years ago, and cut back to 1-2 pieces a day. And now, I'm looking at it, and I realize I haven't had fruit in 3 days. That's interesting!

I think you'll be a-ok. cut veggies are great.

Since I am no longer buying fruit for my Dad, I just don't keep it in the house anymore and I don't miss it a bit. I used up the last of my frozen fruit as a little "pick me up" smoothie after donating blood last week but I don't plan to buy any more.

About the dairy, I find that if I stick to the products that have a high fat/milk solids ratio (stuff like brie, mascarpone, hwc) , they are a great addition to my diet but the just straight up glass of milk is not. Too much lactose involved.

Day 2 of no fruit, no dairy. At my second meal, I really wanted to have that ripe banana. I mean, it was right there! But I realized that I just needed to eat more. That helped. Banana forgotten.

Dairy. I didnt bump into any cheese or heavy cream. All good.

                        13 more days to go.

I go through phases where I don't have any fruit for a several weeks. Then some seasonal fruit will catch my eye at Whole Foods and I will have a bit of a binge. Right now its those sweet little oranges they sell around Christmas. This never seems to effect me and it probably simulates Paleo like activitiy around seasonal fruit eating in ancestral times. I think its important to minimize fruits generally, but an occasional few days of fruit binging during harvest seasons is probably good for you. Most importantly eat clean, local, organic, pastuered, free ranged and wild when possible - no wheat, HFC,transfats or chemicals you can't pronounce.

Yap. Thats my plan once I reach my goal weight. I really need to wean myself off the sugar addiction (now triggered by fruit). I dont have much to lose, and thats why it is getting harder and harder.

Dairy is so expensive here, it's not worth buying (imo). So, we get raw yogurt and cheese for DS -- and he's the only one who eats it. I can't even bother with the taste, now. Go figure. It was good for a couple of years there, though, when it was cheap and raw and accessible.

Good job on your two days.
