  • Organic free range (pastured) chicken livers

How long do they keep in the freezer?? I have been emptying mine ready to defrost it (hasn't been done since I bought it 2 years ago) and I have come across a pack of organic free range chicken livers. They must have been there since the freezer was loaded up from new - so almost 2 years old.

I'd hate to have to throw them, and wondered if they'd still be OK to make some chicken liver pate?

    Thanks.

The general rule is meat last 6 months to a year if sealed properly. However, if they aren't terribly freezer burned, give them a try.

Actually, this is a topic I am interested in - how to seal properly? what do you use?

They are vac packed in heavy duty freezer bag - by the farm. So there should be no freezer burn. I regularly eat meat that has been frozen way longer than 6 months or even a year. It was just the idea of these being livers - but I can't see why that should really make any difference.

I'm sure they are just fine to eat.

Thaw, sniff... if fine... cook and eat.

If a bit 'burned' ... feed to a very lucky dog.

            Vac packing is the king.
