    Hi everyone! Although I've been on again/off again following a low-carb diet for about a year ever since I watched Tom Naughton's "Fat Head", I'm new to eating completely primal. I've been reading the book and looking through the forums for the past week and I'm hooked!

    Anyways, my question is about coffee creamer (liquid Coffee Mate). I know the ingredients list is terrible, but for the little amount I use (I only have one cup of coffee in the morning daily), will it really have an adverse effect?

    Why not heavy cream? Even better grass-fed raw cream?

    "Pasture raised" heavy cream is not too hard to find... or, just some good organic.

      try natural bliss coffee creamer or straight up heavy cream
      also do some research on bulletproof coffee and see what you think

        Once you go heavy cream you can never go back... look for the pasture raised Organic Valley one. Or for a dairy free alternative try something like coconut milk.

            I have been using heavy cream which I love, but it does a number on my stomach. If I make my coffee at home, I use creamer which is all crap, so my only alternative is to change the coffee that I get so I don't need any cream, or buy coconut milk for my house.

              Heavy cream does the same to me if I use it daily. Half and half doesn't. If you buy organic or pastured, it's a little spendier than creamer (which I used to love), but in the end, it's one more way of getting corn and bad oils out of one's system.

              Also, a half to three-quarters tablespoon of good quality butter is a terrific "creamer." The coffee (blended) looks darker than liquid milk products make it look, but the mouth feel is very similar.

              Who says back fat is a bad thing? Maybe on a hairy guy at the beach, but not on a crab.

                Coffemate is transfats and sugar, absolutely horrid, though it does make normal milk seem pretty lame if you're used to it.

                If using cream make sure it's real cream, not some equally artificial junk.

                Simpstr makes a good point, in that it may be worth experimenting with different brands of coffee to find one you can enjoy black or with normal milk or whatever. Don't even think about Nescafe, which is carefully formulated to taste pants with anything except Coffeemate (same company).

                I've moved to using freshly roasted beans which I grind myself, then use 'whipping cream' and a teeny bit of xylitol (natural sugar substitute). Then again I do live next door to the island of Java

                As for butter in my coffee, I can't try that as I'm on a potato fast and zero fat for a week but deffo gonna give it a try...

                    Hi, whipping cream is the same as heavy cream yes?

                      I fix my coffee with 1 T butter and 1 T coconut oil in 16 oz coffee with a little Splenda or stevia. Well I try to do stevia. I don't like it much, but I am using it for a week in hopes that I will aquire a taste for it. I also use a keurig to make my coffee. I used to use random flavored k-cups but lately I have been using the inserts and dunkin donuts gingerbread coffee in the reusable filter. I can not tolerate black coffee but I love many flavored varieties. You might sample a few flavored varieties to see it that makes a different.

                        I tried it with just heavy cream and Truvia yesterday morning, and it was definitely hard to get used to. The cream doesn't seem to cut the bitterness of the coffee as much as creamer, but I'm assuming that it's because it's not nearly as sweet. I tried again this morning, but this time I added a small splash of vanilla Torani Sugar Free coffee syrup (totally forgot I had it!), and it was a lot more doable. Definitely something I can get used to.

                          I tried my espresso this morning with coconut milk and two packs of sugar.....it was very strong.

                            Mmm... get some good quality coffee. Do you have Trader Joe's near you? I love their organic Bolivian Blend. A little cream in it and I'm good to go.

                              I was really, really, really surprised to see the ingredients list on Coffee Mate's new "Natural Bliss" creamers. I was at a regular grocery store trying to find heavy cream and looked at it out of curiosity--it's 4 ingredients are nonfat milk, heavy cream, sugar, and natural flavor. 5g sugar per tbsp. (some of that may be lactose)

                              Personally, I use heavy cream and a few flavored stevia drops. I try to get pastured cream when I can get a hold of it, but it's not easily found around here.
