  • Coconut milk vs almond milk

Both from the silk brand, which one is better for everyday use, and if neither, what do you reccomend for
Mixing a protein shake in for daily use. I'm a freshman at an undergrad univ. planning on applying to med school, and I'm a skinny biochem major, I barely have time to get a full 1.5 hours in the gym, let alone head to the cafe for food 5 times a day. I bought this natures valley raw protein (I know it's not the best but like I said I need something for on the go, and this was my most "primal" option), now I just need a nice primal solvent to mix the powder in and drink at least 2 times every other day, maybe even every day.

silk = gmo. try getting some fresh raw milk. just picked up four gallons of raw goats milk myself this morning. If anything were beneficial to the coconut milk or almond milk it's completely destroyed once pasteurized.

are there gmo coconuts? agree though about the craptastic quality of silk products.

look for coconut milk, in a can, at an asian grocer. much higher fat, more sating. why are you eating 5 times a day? who has time for that?
As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy and to make plans.

I use coconut milk to make protein shakes. I mix with with one or two omega 3 eggs and chocolate flavored protein powder. Or sometimes I'll mix the coconut milk with heavy cream and O3 egg for an eggnog. Marks sells Primal Fuel that includes coconut. Primal Fuel - Primal Blueprint

I prefer coconut milk over almond for flavor and the lauric acid in coconut fat

"The principle fatty acid in coconut milk is lauric acid, which is the same fat found in abundance in mother's milk and is known to promote normal brain development and contribute to healthy bones. It also has important anti-carcinogenic and anti-pathogenic properties and is less likely to cause weight gain than polyunsaturated oils."

Would I be putting a grain-feed cow on a fad diet if I took it out of the feedlot and put it on pasture eating the grass nature intended?

Coconut milk for me all the way. I use So Delicious brand. It is thicker than almond milk and seems to work better for me in smoothies, gluten free pancakes (for the kids) and other baking.

I don't have a container of almond milk to compare, but my guess is they are equally fortified (unfortunately with synthetic VitA and D2 instead of D3). Pretty sure less sugar in coconut milk and more fat. I also am pretty sure the almond milk would have a high Omega 6 vs Omega 3 content which is not optimal.

Personally? I would use canned coconut milk (BPA free can) for the smoothies. Use the 'lite' (just watered down) if you don't like the strong coconut taste. If you are going to drink glasses of the stuff, buy the Silk brand.

Coconut milk (minimally processed in a can at the Asian foods aisle) is super yummy and good for you. I make awesome smoothies with it adding protein powder and berries.

Almond milk is processed, tastes awful IMO and has no nutritional value.

good grief -- can't you eat bigger meals? or is that too much food at a time? don't be afraid of raw eggs mixed with coconut milk, or even coconut cream. more fat, real food. it will make you feel much more full than protein powder will and offer more calories.

Well at my school I just go to the salad bar and stock up. Eating 2 hand-fulls of lettuce and spinach, 3 scoops of raw broccoli, 3 scoops of raw cauliflower, along with 3 scoops of w.e else they have that day (red and green bell peppers, olives, anything primal) comes out to be a lot of food!!!

Which is why I opted for this protein shake, raw eggs mixed with coconut milk, how does that taste? Would it be as nutritional as this nature's valley raw protein powder I bought? This stuff has soy in it, so i'm not planning on using it again after I finish these 2 tubs -_-, and marks stuff is just plain expensive, sorry, 70 bucks for 30 servings tub, which im guessing is 1 scoop a serving, thats 70 bucks every 1.5/2 months!! The life of a primal undergrad -_-

no wonder you're hungry. you're eating like a rabbit!! you need protein and fat or you will be constantly starving and never put on any muscle or weight. raw veggies are fine, but it's lots of volume for very few calories.

raw eggs mixed into something are almost flavorless, and yes, far superior to some soy powder, which likely is gmo soy and just junk. 1 can of coconut milk plus 3-4 eggs will start you out at about 1400 cals for the day.

I'll try it soon to see how satiating it is, on the plus side, eggs aren't "very" expensive
