hey was hoping to get some good ideas for a good meal coming off a 24 hour fast.

Lots of people do 24 hour fasts everyday, so I don't think any special food is needed, as long it is healthy.

Check out pk's Fasting Primer thread too. http://www.marksdailyapple.com/forum/thread27894.html

Just what I would ordinarily eat. 24h. isn't really a 'fast' for me though~ it's eating only once a day

Yeah, I doubt you need anything special for just 24 hours. I once did a 10 day fast. That was interesting. Not something I'd repeat.

Are you asking me? Most days I follow Fast-5, usually have a snack around 4-5pm and dinner at 7pm. Probably once a week, things just get busy and I either forget to eat or don't have the opportunity, so I just have dinner. Have pretty much done this all my life. The only time I had problems was when I stupidly listened to CW with their *Breakfast is the most important meal of the day* BS. After gaining 15 pounds and having sugar crashes if I didn't eat all day, I called *uncle* and went back to what works for me.

As for fasting, I don't call it a fast until it's more than 36 hours, and that would be mostly because I had overindulged (like Thanksgiving) at the previous meal. Otherwise, I fast for 'housecleaning' and I'm finding that 5+ days work best for me.

YMMV~ It's just something you work with until it feels right. I've been doing this for a long time (40 years) and I'm still learning~ My body keeps changing as I age!

I'm just making this up, I have no studies or anything to prove it...I don't eat one day a week, from dinner one day til lunch 2 days later--a 41hr fast--when I break this fast, I like to eat super-foods such as bone broth, blueberries, freshly made carrot juice, free range eggs cooked in pastured butter. The tndency is to just pig out on whatever primal goody there is handy, but I like to think your guts are in prime position to squeeze every last nutrient and vitamin you give them, so might as well go for the highest quality food you have on that first feeding.

Damn that sounds good... fasting or no. Make sure to add a little salt.

Yeah, 24 hours isn't really much. When I fast for a day, I just eat a normal meal afterwards... nothing special.

I like a liquid meal that is easily digested. I go with a quart of raw milk and raw eggs, this is how I broke my 58 hours fast today. This is also my typical breakfast

Coming off a 24 hour fast right now. Okay, okay, I do it everyday, and it's usually more like a 23-hour fast and sometimes a 20 hour fast if I eat right before leaving the house. I'm having:

Only 1/2 pound of steak today. Dialing back the protein a little for ketosis or near-ketosis.
Four eggs (See?! So much protein! I love it!)
Two cups of frozen spinach to soak up the tallow from the meat and eggs
                        One avocado
                        Two cubes of bone broth
1/2 pot of bulletproof coffee made with 1 cup Aroy-D coconut milk
Two chunks of pure baking chocolate
                        Crohn's, doing SCD

                          After a 24-hour fast?

I do about 18-20 hours almost daily. I have to make that meal count so that I don't chronically underconsume calories.

I tend to eat a lot of eggs in my diet and recently, fermented veggies. I vary my meats depending on my mood.

                          Try this:

7 egg omlete with a cup of raw kale or spinach tossed inside (it will cook with the eggs) seasoned with basil, oregano, garlic powder, and a little chipotle for some smoked heat. If you want even more heat, chop a chili pepper of your choice and toss in the omlete. Cook in a tablespoon of coconut oil.

Next take about 800 calories of your favorite meat (or meat + oil to cook in) and prepare in your favorite method (I recomend using similar spices if you are going to season the meat). Good choices include about one pound of any fattier ground meat (beef, bison, pork, or lamb), 1 lb of a good steak or pork chops cooking in a tablespoon of coconut oil, a roast could work too, although the amount you cook would depend on the cut and fat content of the roast you are using.

Place the omlete on your plate, top with the meat you chose, and optionally, if you want, top with a sauce such as steak sauce, barbacue sauce whatever floats your boat. You can make your own sauces to keep them more primal. Place a cup of sauerkraut on the side to compliment the flavor of the protein-heavy omlete/meat combo. Finally, you can create an optional side salad if you want, to increase the veggie content of the meal. Depending on the exact ingredient list, you have between 1,500 and 1,700 calories.

Just my two-cents, but most people would say my eating habits are quite... Odd.

Drumroll, we eat almost exactly the same way! I love me some sauerkraut now and then.

I have been consuming a little higher on the protein side than most people would recommend to stay in ketosis, but I think in combination with my daily fasts, I've been seeing some great results. I'm fairly certain I'm in ketosis most of the time now.

I've been on a fermented veggie kick lately. You can pay tons for expensive probiotics, or you can get some vitamins, minerals, and fiber along with your probiotics at a fraction of the cost. Plus, it tastes better than swallowing another damn pill.
