  • Carnivore days ... are spices acceptable?

    Title says it all.

I had 3 eggs for "breakfast" at 12:30pm, but had salt and pepper with them.

About to go for a run and then when I get back was gonna bake some chicken breasts (with skin). Can I use spices (and if so, which ones are off-limits)?

    Hmmm.

If you're specifically avoiding nightshades, then remember that paprika and chilli are off limits.

I don't think you'd use enogh spice to have a major effect on anything... might help to state your particular goals / reasons for carnivory?

I was thinking of making some sort of Indian-ish combo ... turmeric, cumin, maybe some coriander.

As for the reasons for trying carnivore... none really, just to see what it's like (hunger levels, energy levels, mental status, etc)

Carnivore is awesome! Nothing like getting all primal and eating a big hunk of nothing but meat. If you want to do it proper, go for no utensils!

        I grok, therefore I am.

I'm pretty carnivorous myself, though I try to eat a small side of dark green veg with each meal.

I highly recommend cinnamon on bacon and sausage. I like to douse these in cinnamon right out of the skillet, fry some eggs, then pour the leftover grease on the bacon and sausage and douse it with yet more cinnamon. Not only does it taste wonderful, but it's got loads of antioxidants which are especially important for carnivores.

We also use turmeric on chicken, though chicken is a bit low-fat for my tastes and I can't get too excited about it.

^^YES. I saw someone here saying it was good, so I tried it and now I'm hooked! Cinnamon on bacon and sausage tastes great.

I use almost every spice in the book, I'm willing to make some serious sacrifices but taking the flavor of spice away from my food isn't one of them.

I began this Primal journey on December 30th, 2009 and in that time I've lost over 125 LBS.

Even "The Bear" (google him) allowed for spices and seasoning.

                      acceptable? Who cares? GARLIC! GINGER!!!

(Okay, on a non-snarky note, lots of spices contain very awesome anti0xidents, and other really great properties. Tumeric, garlic, and ginger would be among my top 3. I'll have to try that cinnamon with pork/bacon thing.)
