  • Primal Fuel 'fast'?

    Hey, everyone,

I went Primal about two weeks ago and have lost 5 lbs without even trying! YAY!

Just curious: has anyone tried just drinking Primal Fuel and lost weight, too? I'm not saying I would do this all the time, but I'd try it as part of my 'fast'. I have friends that have spent tons of money at these medical weight loss centers and all they did was drink protein shakes (like Primal Fuel) as part of their Very Low Calorie Diet (VLCD). I think they were hovering around 800-1000 calories/day. The doctors gave them B12 shots along with some other vitamins, etc, and the weight just fell off of them. That said, I can outrun and out hike any of them!

So has anyone just tried Primal Fuel? Any feedback is appreciated! Thanks!

What you are describing is a PMSF.

What part of this starvation diet would cause you to think this would be a good idea for long term health?

I know Mark sells Primal Fuel, but to be honest, the whole point of Primal is to eat real food and have a healthy relationship with it, not rely on shakes, even if temporarily.

It's just not healthy, physically or emotionally.
      Durp.

Obviously, starving is very unnatural and not primal. It would never happen to Grok because he could just go to the grocery store.

A Primal Fuel fast is stupid. Primal Fuel is not that healthy (one of the better meal replacements but not even close to actual food) and it's expensive and unfortunate on the tastebuds. Just eat normal, primal food.

No reason I can see that this would be healthy, primal, paleo, or anything else right and proper. Have you read the book?
If you are new to the PB - please ignore ALL of this stuff, until you've read the book, or at least http://www.marksdailyapple.com/primal-blueprint-101/ and this (personal fave): http://www.archevore.com/get-started/

It isn't much of a meal replacement with only 180 calories per shake I use it to get more veggies by blending it with tons of spinach

I've been having protein shakes lately, but I've been adding fat to them (usually grass fed heavy cream), then having a regular supper. It's not such a bad thing. I'm having no problem hitting 1500 cals and upwards.
I want to try Primal Fuel, but the price is outrageous. I'll stick with my Sun Warrior & Jay Robb

Nope. I still to whole foods instead.

Hello... I never said starvation was a good idea. I said my friends did. However, Mark does have an article on the occasional fasting. Thanks.

Yup, I've read the book. Trust me. I prefer salmon over a liquid shake ANY day...I AM interested in the concept of using protein shakes in a pinch for weight loss. I would mix this with regular Primal eating.

So has anyone drank the stuff? Thank you again.

You do realize what fasting means, right?

Thanks RitaRose. I get the whole concept of going Primal. I understand it is more than just 'eating' a certain way. It's a complete lifestyle change. I have implemented many of the ideas behind it (simplicity, lots of walks in fresh, outsprinting my kids lol).

Again, I am getting different viewpoints here about fasting. Mark stated that occasional fasting isn't that bad...hmmm...

Where are these differing viewpoints you speak of? Nobody in this thread has said fasting is a bad idea...

StackingPlates, are you usually this sarcastic? If so, please don't bother answering my thread. I came here to ask honest questions, and I was hoping for sincere, helpful answers from this community. Not "are you stupid" sort of replies. Thank you.

It may have come across as sarcastic, but StackingPlates asked a valid question. You have referred to a "fast" several times. the definition of fasting, from dictionary.com is

                              verb (used without object)
                              1. to abstain from all food.
                              2. to eat only sparingly or of certain kinds of food, especially as a religious observance.

If you are consuming anything, even Primal Fuel, then you are not fasting, you are going on a very low calorie diet. Fasting can be good and Mark has indeed done a series of good articles on intermittent fasting and why it's good for you. Primal Fuel or its ilk can also be quite good in a pinch, although as a general rule I don't like that type of thing as an actual meal replacement on a regular basis. As others have said, if I'm going to go low calorie, I'd rather obtain the calories I am getting from whole foods rather than a powdered drink. If I'm going to fast, then I'm going to fast and it's only water for whatever length of time I am doing the fast.
