  • Protein n urine

Hi all, I just got a shock when my application for additional life insurance as rejected due to the results of my urinalysis. My specific gravity was 1.038 where the top of the range was defined as 1.035, my total protein was 76 where the top of the range was defined as 14.9, and my protein/creatinine was .34 where the top of the range was defined as .30. So, in a nutshell, should I be worried? Does my diet need modification?

I would suggest getting some follow up care. While fasting, dehydration, or heavy exertion can cause protein in your urine it can also be a sign of serious kidney disease. You should at a minimum have a repeat test when you are not fasting (although 10 hours really is not enough to cause issues for most people) and when you are fully hydrated.
