  • Cashews

Reading the new Whole30 book, It Starts With Food, (ahhhhmazing by the way), and I came across the nut section. Cashews and macademias are on the top of the list.... Do I vaugely remember the PB and mark telling us they're toxic??? Was just curious what everyone thought about this! Thankssss

I would watch the quantity of cashews. They're freaking addictive, and they're a bit high in carbs if you're watching that and eating them by the fistful. Not that I would ever do that...
    Durp.

No. Cashews, while seeds and not true nuts, are fine.

Are Cashews Primal or Paleo? | Mark's Daily Apple

They're not ideal food - no nuts are - but they're better than some nuts. They actually have pretty low PUFA content compared to most nuts. Make them a treat - a handful on your salad every once in awhile, maybe crust your salmon in a handful of chopped cashews, the occasional apple with almond butter for a snack or dessert, etc. Just don't make them...or any nut...a dietary staple.

Omega-6 Content Various Nuts (1/4 cup)
                  Walnuts 9.5 g
                  Almonds 4.36 g
                  Cashews 2.6 g
                  Macadamias 0.5 g
                  Brazil nuts 7.2 g
                  Hazelnuts 2.7 g
                  Pistachio 4.1 g
                  Pine nuts 11.6 g
                  Pecans 5.8 g

                    Kinda yes, kinda no.
I think they taste less "nutty" and a little flat in flavor. However, it could be that I haven't dehydrated them enough before roasting them.
I do know that roasting (dry) cashews in coconut oil makes them delicious.
