Will someone bake one or both of these cake recipes?

  • Will someone bake one or both of these cake recipes?

    And post a picture of a slice and tell me how they turn out? Also, I am baking for a non-primal person so I need to know if they taste like honey or coconut, or if they taste typical, and if they are outstanding or just pretty good Are they dense or light, and would it be complemented by buttercream or whipped cream? What is the texture like, and does it taste like vanilla? You can bake both and compare them and I'd really appreciate it, or just one and tell me how it goes. Thanks!!

    3/4 cup whole milk and 1/4 cup cream
    6 egg whites
    3/4 cup honey or to taste
    1 tsp vanilla extract
    2/3 cup coconut flour
    4 tsp baking powder
    1 tsp salt
    3/4 cup softened butter

    Preheat oven to 350 F.
    Grease two 9 inch pans with vegetable shortening (not butter, because it will brown the edges of the cake), line with parchment paper, grease parchment paper, and flour the pans with coconut flour.

    Combine milk, egg whites, honey and vanilla in a small bowl with a fork. Set aside.
    Sift together flour, powder and salt. Rub in butter until mixture looks like wet sand.

    Add all but 1/2 cup of the milk mixture, and beat for 1 1/2 minutes. Add the remaining milk mixture and beat for another half a minute, scraping sides of bowl as necessary.

    Divide batter evenly between prepared pans and gently shake to smooth batter. Bake 30 - 35 minutes until done.

    Let cool in pans 15 minutes, then invert onto racks to cool completely.

    1/4 tsp sea salt
    4 eggs

    1/2 cup honey
    1 Tablespoon vanilla

    Preheat oven to 350 F.
    Combine all dry ingredients and blend well. Blend wet ingredients together, add wet to dry and blend until there are no clumps.
    Line cake pans with parchment or wax paper, and fill pans about 3/4 of the way with batter. Bake until done, no exact times because it's adapted from a cupcake recipe.

    Why don't you bake it yourself?

      I have really limited supplies. I've never baked a non-traditional cake before and have heard a lot about coconut flour not working out. I don't want to mess up and not be able to make another one.

        The internet is full of people who've successfully baked it themselves. That's what baking it yourself is for. Practice.

              That's what this is about - working out what works for YOU. How do you know, if I cook it and it works, if it will work for you anyway??? Either give it a try... or don't.

                If it doesn't turn out well, it might be your technique, not the recipe. It might be your oven isn't well-calibrated. It might be that you bought the wrong ingredient thinking it was the right one. Or it might simply be that you didn't like the taste of the result. How can someone else making a recipe with their own shopping mistakes, their own mis-calibrated oven, their own inability to use a measuring cup or beat an egg properly and their own taste buds possibly be able to make your decision for you?

                  F 5 ft 3. HW: 196 lbs. Primal SW (May 2011): 182 lbs (42% BF)... W June '12: 160 lbs (29% BF) (UK size 12, US size 8). GW: ~24% BF - have ditched the scales til I fit into a pair of UK size 10 bootcut jeans. Currently aligning towards 'The Perfect Health Diet' having swapped some fat for potatoes.

                          Because I bake a LOT (I am a personal chef) and it is all gluten free I play around with these kinds of recipes all the time. Of the 2 you have here I would say go with number 2 and skip the first one. If I do end up baking in the next week I will bake number 2 just for sh_ts and giggles and let you know

                          And yes, trying all of these faux recipes can get very expensive~so if you don't need them you might want to take a pass Just a suggestion!!

                            OP, it sounds like you're basically wanting to serve a cake to company, is that right? if so, and you don't mind eating a little sugar and rice, i can give you a delicious angel food cake recipe.
