  • What the world really eats

This is a really interesting piece trying to show what the world really eats.

The UK 'diet' appears to be the worst of the lot - I'm not sure if the dog might be part of that just yet but the way things are going who knows ;-)

If you're eating primal/paleo, seeing those photos makes you feel pretty good about your own diet.
Also, there are a lot more photos in the article than posted in the thread so be sure to click the link.

Um... I don't see any food in the US & UK pictures. Oh, wait... there's some grapes.
And why are the Mexicans overweight from all those fruits & veggies? Wait. It must be the cereal.
I think I'd actually want to have dinner with the Chinese...

Judging by the haircuts in the UK photo, and the number of VHS tapes in the Japanese photo, I'd estimate some of these pictures must be up to 20 years old (don't know enough about the other cultures to date them). I also get the impression that rather than this being a scientific study it is the result of a bored researcher doing a lot of googling. Interesting pics though.

Well, it's only the boy in orange, and the possibly the adult male, who look a little porky. However, the long table at the back seems to be loaded with carbonated beverages. It looks like they have more than anyone else, although the Italian family have a few on the window sill. Commerce mightn't have touched the Mexican family's food as much as it would have liked, but it's sure sold them on the idea that they need to gulp sugar-water to "refresh" themselves.

UK pictures not that far of if what I see in peoples shopping trollys is anything to go by.. in fact its probably a bit optimistic....
Oh and the Bakers is (nasty) dog food.. so im assuming there feeding it to the dog...not eating it & the dog....

A favorite food in Great Britain is "mayonnaise sandwiches"?? Really? Is there anything else on the sandwich?? I've never heard of someone just eating a mayonnaise sandwich, that sounds gross

I am having dinner with the family from Chad... Soup with fresh sheep meat sound good to me...

Also, it is strange that the Italian family has no wine in the picture. Italians that I have met in Italy and around the world drink wine with their meals. While they may drink soda, they also drink wine.
