  • Why does this organic greek yogurt have double the carbs?

    I can choose between 2 greek yogurts: the organic one from the health store and the nonorganic from the grocery store. But the regular one has 3g carbs per 100g and the organic one has 6g. The ingredients are the same. Why is this and which one should I buy?

    One most likely has more added sugar. Unless you're going for super VLC, 3-6 grams of sugar shouldn't cause any problems at all.
    For reference, a can of coke has almost 30 grams.

      Did you read the ingredients? Is one lower fat than the other? Is one strained more than the other? Seriously always read the ingredients because some organic brands have more fake ingredients than others. I got burned big time on organic sour cream once. There wasn't even any cream in it.

        Both ones don't have added sugar. Just the basic "yogurt" ingredients

          Then it looks like sbhikes is on the money. If one is lower fat, that means more milk and less cream.
          Milk contains lactose, a sugar, so therefor higher carb.

            Back when I ate greek yogurt I looked on the front of the container at the percent of fat, like 10%. Also I don't know if you are adding the sugar to the carb content but yogurt that is fermented for longer periods has less lactose sugar, which makes it lower in carbs I think.

              My Fage Total has 8g's. Lactose doesn't really impact blood sugar, especially in small quantities. Granted, I only eat 7 or 8 ounces of it a day. What you want to avoid are low fat yogurts. If they yanked fat out, they put sugar in.
