  • Cavewomen and menopause??

Just a thought, but did cave women suffer from menopause symptoms such as hot flashes?
Im assuming they did as its a hormonal inbalance and as natural as it comes. Am I wrong?
But what did they do to allieviate these symptoms?
Since giving up soya products my hot flashes have got me burning up!
I'm not a complete idiot! There's parts missing!!

They died way before they ever hit menopause.

      Don't think so.

Grandmother hypothesis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Many hormonal imbalances these days are contributed to by the hormones that CAFO animals are fed, birth control hormones in the water supply, stress and crap food--not something the Paleo grandmother had to deal with.

Progesterone cream has been helpful for me with peri-menopausal symptoms. I recommend the book "What your Doctor May Not Tell you about Menopause by Dr. John Lee.

I have visited a naturopath who suggested specific supplements to help balance hormones. I was getting major migraines 2 or three times a week. Previously, I would get one a month. It took a few months, but now I get none! Sweating is also reduced.

The same way they suffered through infection, headaches, childbirth, missing limbs, etc...
You shouldn't suffer in order be closer to nature. If your menopause symptoms are making you miserable, I think you should not discount the option of medicine.

Why does everyone forget about herbs? I think early man quickly discovered the medicinal properties of various plants and used them effectively to treat a wide variety of human ills.

My mother said menopause wasn't so bad--for the first time in her life her feet were warm in bed. She was no cave woman, but my point is that hot flashes might have been something to look forward to in some climates before central heating.

Many women get relief from menopause, as well as PMS symptoms, by taking a supplement called Diindolylmethane (DIM for short). Natural sources of DIM include broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage, and cauliflower. Maybe if cavewomen ate more nutritious vegetables like this than most women today get in their SAD, they didn't suffer so many symptoms.

there is considerable herbalism on the topic, too. might look into Susun Weed -- a great herbalist.
