  • Detox day 2 - I'm hungry!

I sure hope this is just part of detox, but is it normal to be more hungry than usual when first cutting out processed carbs/sugars? I just had lunch around noon or so (bacon ranch salad from McD's, no chicken [too packed with sodium nitrites/nitrates]), then I had a Fuji apple as a snack about an hour ago. I'm hungry again already!

Someone please tell me this is just my body craving carbs, and it will pass soon.

Yes, especially as you are eating very little protein and fat. The apple's sugar and carbs will only serve to make you hungrier. My suggestion is to eat some eggs and avocado, or something similar.

Ism's in my opinion are not good. A person should not believe in an -ism, he should believe in himself. I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me."--Ferris Bueller, 1986

      Captain,

Problem with the McD's salads is they don't have much protein in them. Since you didn't have the chicken with it, you hardly got any protein at all. The apple gave you a big carb shot, as well...

I'm assuming you're at work---is there a place you could grab a can of tuna or something? That will fix you right up :-)

Ahhh, I see. So protein will help me feel full then? Nope, no emergency tuna nearby. Thanks for the info though!

Protein and fat will satiate you, eating a salad full of carbs will not (albeit they were good vegetable carbs at least)! You'll get the hang of it after a bit. For tomorrow, either pack your own lunch or just eat the chicken (the bacon was probably worse for you than the chicken would have been).

**to be clear, I LOVE bacon...just make sure it's from a good source

yep muscle proteins (meat proteins) and good fats will help. They may not make you feel full, but you will not be thinking about eating right away either. Trust me, it surprised the crap out of me. I used to have to eat 4-5 times a day out of sheer hunger and I also tried just eating salads and fruit and I was still really hungry. Get some meats and fat going brother.

I used to seriously post here, now I prefer to troll.

Metal foil packets of tuna and salmon are life savers. No opener needed, and no water to slop out.

Good idea! I'll have to pick up a few of those as emergency snacks.

Totally normal; it's called the low-carb flu. Your body is kicking the sugar habit, so don't give it any more sugar for a while! That Fuji apple? Bad idea. Don't have any fruit for the first week or two so your body can settle down out of its sugar addiction.

Eat meat and fat. High-fat tuna, ribeye steak, butter, eggs, bacon, etc.

Primal eating in a nutshell: If you are hungry, eat Primal food until you are satisfied (not stuffed). Then stop. Wait until you're hungry again. Repeat.

Check out people's journals here to get an idea of what people are eating. You're not going to believe how much healthy fat is consumed.

If you can't eat lunch from home, see if you can get to a supermarket and get the salad bar from there, assuming you can dump a bunch of chicken and/or hardboiled eggs on it. Then slather it in olive oil and enjoy.

Fat is absolutely the answer to hunger. (Thank you, Griff!)
