  • The Scale challenge

I am going to not weigh myself for an entire month to get over obsessing about the number and focusing on my overall health! What do you all think of this? Who's with me?

    No scale until April 15th!

You'll be much happier weighing yourself once or twice a month instead of obsessing over it. As an example, last time I stepped on a scale was mid February, it said 200. I stepped on it this morning and it said 185, which shocked me. You'd be amazed at what the numbers do when you aren't watching them like a hawk.
Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who has said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own experience.

In the mind of the beginner, there are many possibilities; in the mind of the expert, there are few.

I've shaken hands with a raccoon and lived to tell the tale

SW: 220- 225 pounds at the beginning of January
    CW: 180 pounds

Goals for 2012: Lose a bit more fat and start a serious muscle and strength routine

Thanks for the feedback, this is what I'm hoping for! The number usually just makes me upset when I don't get the results I want then it gives an excuse in my mind to go "well it doesn't matter anyway, might as well eat whatever I want".

This mentality made me gain about 10 lbs in the past month... and I'm done with it! Nothing scarier than seeing the weight creep up!

p.s. congrats on your loss. That is Amazing! 15 lbs!

Avoiding the scale works best for me because I have some medical issues and therefore lose very slowly. Weighing daily will drive you MAD if you are a slow loser...

Last month my batteries died in my fancy azz scale... just replaced them the other day, been eating right, and sure enough was glad to see some loss. Certainly not 15 lbs... but in my world I'm OK with "slow and steady" If I had been weighing daily with water and hormonal fluctuations, PLUS the fact that I lose really slow, I probably would have had doubt creeping up on me.

So yeah... no more weighing for a while... a month seems about right.

In. I have a physical on March 23 - but after that I'm off until May 1.

I'm going to stop weighing myself until the doctor in a couple weeks. I do want to start taking measurements of myself, though.

I'm glad to see some people joining! I really think when your focus becomes health, the benefits will come (rather than doing the inverse). Let's be healthy for health's sake! Not for skinny's sake!

Count me in. I need to do measurements, too, but I keep putting it off. I'll do 'em TODAY!

This is so true... I think that weighing daily creates a lot of internal strife that we see posted here on the boards. People weigh daily and see the water/hormonal fluctuations and start panicking... asking about "more fat", "less fat", "how much protein??", "how many carbs", and other counting daily macro issues...

Relax a bit, eat protein, good fats, and lots of healthy vegetables... have a bit of starchy veg now and then if you are inclined to, don't eat until stuffed. Stop stressing.
Sure, we all need to say to ourselves "man... I'm munching too many nuts lately" (or something similar) sometimes... but we really don't NEED the scale to tell us that. If we are using the scale to measure it then what we are really trying to do is see how much we can get away with IMO.

I just finished a Whole30 yesterday which included not weighing myself for the 30 days. I sure liked seeing -11 pounds this morning!

I agree too much! I know when I had a day when I was like... damn I ate too many nuts, I go to the scale and torture myself by obseving my 5 - 10 lbs of water weight and hate myself for the rest of the week... following unrealistic diet regimens which result in crashing and binging. That isn't life. That feels like a prison to me, I never have peace in my mind. I'm sick of letting the scale dictate my health and my emotions. If I eat some nuts, it's okay! I will still feel healthy, mentally and physically, regardless of if I gain a bit!!
