  • Pregnancy - calcium requirements - Help!

I usually lurk on this board, so forgive me.
I am currently 5.5wks preg with our third child.
I've been eating 80% Primal/Paleo for awhile now and am feeling much better than in the past.

My last pregnancy, I inhaled all things dairy and could guzzle a gallon of milk by myself in a day or two. I took lots of liquid cal/mag too, b/c it just felt like I was calcium deficient.

So, how can I up my calcium? I really don't want to do supplements, but will if it's necessary. I'm starting to feel that calcium craving already. I do drink almond milk and eat lots of veggies. Are cal/mag supplements worth it? When I remember, I also take 4000IU of Vit D a day, and when I do that, my legs aren't aching.

So, how should I naturally get lots of calcium?
Needing some accountability, so here's my stats:
    34yrs old, 5'5"
    CW: 163lbs (07/2014)
    GW: 135lbs or less
Eating mainly paleo, but including a bit of white rice (don't call the Paleo Police!)

Often Mag helps us with Calcium use, and is important, and likely deficient in many of us...

Do you have a dairy intolerance? Many primal people eat lots of dairy. Just get Full Fat organic and non-homogenized if you can. Full fat yogurt, butter, and kefir and great too.
Using low lectin/nightshade free primal to control autoimmune arthritis. (And lost 50 lbs along the way )

you might consider upping your intake of other bone-building nutrients as well, maybe that might help your calcium cravings? some of these are vitamin k2, vitamin d3, phosphorus, magnesium, and zinc. also dairy during pregnancy=good if you can tolerate it. try to keep it low sugar though (I used the "i need calcium" thing to justify an unhealthy obsession with ice cream during my last pregnancy).

Leafy greens are a much better source of calcium than dairy.
