First a bit of background:
29 years old, 6'4", 359 lbs, and I take medicine for high blood pressure (imagine that, right?). I was 375 three months ago, but lost some through diet changes and exercise. The diet I was on previously was relatively low carb, but still had grains, dairy and a fair amount of carbs in it. Over the weekend I switched gears to pure primal eating after reading the book. I've been off the exercise for a couple of weeks, and haven't started the primal exercise plan, but intend to in the next couple of weeks. I was hoping to start this week, but I'm feeling a bit off. Also, despite my horrible eating habits over the years, I hate caffeine and soda and consume very little of them.
So I'm three days in and I'm feeling a bit weird. My blood pressure and pulse seem good. Pulse is down a little, usually it's low 90s but now it's mid 70. I'm feeling restless and jittery, and I'm having trouble sleeping at night. I took acid a few times as a teenager (stupid days of my youth), and the feeling I'm having now reminds me vaguely of the come down from that, though not as intense. It's a general feeling of discomfort all over and an energy level that feels like I've been chugging caffeine. I'm very cranky and irritable, and I had a minor argument with one of my coworkers yesterday as a result. I'm having trouble keeping my cool.
I'm craving bad foods but not giving in. As I approach each meal (I eat when I feel hungry) I'm craving sugar and carbs (and thinking quite a bit about them, today I had it in my head that I needed a chicken burrito from Chipotle). After I eat, I'm sated for a bit, but I start having the same craving as I approach the next meal. I've been eating chicken breast, steak, broccoli, carrots, scrambled eggs, blueberries, almonds, dried apricots and drinking water whenever I feel thirsty.
So... are these feelings, especially the jitters, normal? Or should I be worried about my health? Any advice you guys can offer would be helpful.
