  • Primal Shift Workers

I just recently started working a 12PM-9PM shift at work and am having trouble adjust food wise. I come home hungry and I am doing my damndest not to eat when I get home as I typically go to bed within an hour of getting home. I take my last meal between 4-5 and I've tried eating breakfast and not waiting to eat until after I workout. There really isn't a difference in hunger levels when I get home. Any thoughts?

Do you have to eat between 4 and 5? Could you move it closer to 7?

As for me, I can't sleep when I am hungry so I can see how its messing you up.

I work 10pm-6am and go to bed around 8am usually. I've been sleeping better since eating a lighter meal immediately when I get home. Usually one or two eggs, 1/2 cup wild blueberries with some raspberries an blackberries thrown in, and some coconut milk stirred with the fruit. Oh, and I eat a big ass salad with steak every night at about 315am. On workout days I immediately go to the gym upon awakening with a downed whey shake, and I like to do a IF on "rest" days. Anyway....hope this helps.

I work 12hr shifts 7-7 and eat my last meal at about 3am. This works for me but I have had days that I feel hungry before I leave work. I'd put together a small meal like 4 strips of bacon or some hard boiled eggs. Just about anything you like will work. If you are leaving work at 9 or so I'd eat something small before I left at about 8:30 or I'd eat my last meal at about 6-7.

I also find that eating a real meal 4 or 5 hours before bed allows me to not be hungry at all. You could try this:

          1. Eat small about before leaving work
          2. Eat larger more satisfying meal at your normal 4-5 pm (I make my last meal pretty big, with lots of fat and I eat slow)
          3. Drink large glass of water before leaving work or when you get home.

Keep working at it and you will find a time and amount that works for you.

          Good luck

I work in a call center so it isn't physical labor. Our lunches and breaks are scheduled so I have no choice in time. My problem is that I am not hungry at 4 yet I workout between 10-11 and eat something after I shower around noon(we have a gym at work). I haven't felt the urge to eat everything in sight with winter coming. I'm not starving when I get home, I just feel the urge to eat a little something. I'm in bed between 10:30-11 as I have to be up early in the morning to take care of stuff at home.

Snacking leads to very bad things for me. I have chosen not to snack as it leads to a binge feat.

Maybe have one of Batty's Blueberry Butter Balls with B-Coconut when you get home. A nice light snack.

I tried bone marrow for the first time. I like it very much but I can only eat about three of them. Fatty in the extreme! That much concentrated fat seems to signal my brain that I am full and do not need to eat. I was surprised how fast that happened. So buy three marrow bones, roast them and give it a shot. You may find a snack that holds off all hunger for hours.

I work 6p-6a three to four nights a week. I eat a meal before going to work, a breakfast type meal or meat and veggies. I eat again around 11 or 12. I always bring my lunch, usually good Primal leftovers. I eat a snack around 4, something like berries and nuts. I don't eat when I get home because my belly doesn't feel great when I wake up. This has worked for me. I've lost 32 pounds since May 1st. My biggest problem is finding the best time to exercise.

I hate to say it, there may not be an "answer" to your problem. I have been working a 7 day swing shift (8 hr. shift) for almost 17 yrs! It never fails that no matter how I plan my meals at work Im usually always hungry when I get home! Since going primal in late June I've made sure that when I need to eat that close to bedtime, that I eat a small amount of something proper, no falling off the wagon.
I hope you can come up with something that will work for your situation....

BTW - Since going primal in late June, I've managed to drop almost 40 lbs!

Maybe it's an Ohio thing! Too close to the lake for me!

Randomly, have you tried doing any IF? I'm experiementing with it and really been enjoying it. Do all my eating between 12-8, fast the rest of the day. No idea, just a random thought! And, maybe some more fat!!
