  • Billboard equates bacon with cigarettes

Here's a story just posted this morning here in Iowa and it pisses me off. As a side note, I'm not located near Des Moines but the "Bacon Festival" sounds like an awesome idea!

Iowa billboard equates bacon with cigarettes

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) --- A billboard that equates eating bacon with smoking cigarettes is going up for a month in Des Moines, capital of the nation's top pork-producing state.

The billboard's placement coincides with a meeting of the National Pork Board, which is based in Des Moines.

The billboard shows bacon strips in a pack of cigarettes.

The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine is behind the billboard. The committee says American Institute for Cancer Research shows that less than 2 ounces of processed meats eaten daily can increase a person's risk for colorectal cancer by 21 percent.

The committee also criticized the upcoming Bacon Festival in Des Moines. Festival organizer Brooks Reynolds invited the committee to attend and share its message.

Wow, shocking. Kind of like when the Nazi's wanted to march on a Jewish holiday. Hmmm, doesn't sound very responsible to me.

Good job. I got disgusted by the phrase "responsible medicine" and quit reading. I would have missed that, but for you.

Ya know that 21% is probably from people who eat the regular stuff, right? Filled with delicious phosphates, nitrites, etc. Of course you're gonna get cancer if you eat a crapload of chemicals :P

EVERYTHING causes cancer these days lol. I am over listening to all these studies. I question more things now and don't give much merit to a lot of cw medical things now since going primal. Every day there is conflicting report on everything. So I just have the attitude of how do we REALLY know anything about anything? lol I'm just gonna live a primal, simple lifestyle and hope for the best!
I'm too stubborn to give up so I keep on trying.

Yup. I figure we're all gonna die from radiation one way or another (chemo, global atomic fallout... you get the idea)

I've never been to the festival (for any of the few years it has been in existence) because of two reasons. The first, was price, if I remember right, the last one was priced at $35/ticket. Secondly, all of the fairly limited number of tickets were sold out before I was even aware that the festival was happening again (so, at least bacon is popular here).

I'd rather get cancer from bacon than cigs, not PC enough for a t-shirt.
I used to seriously post here, now I prefer to troll.

PCRM is a vegan propaganda committee. Have you guys never been to their website before? They're almost as bad as CSPI.

                          Ugh, vegans..

I'd tell them to go kill themselves, but they're already ahead of me.
