  • I thought I was eating well but WTF?

I've never actually tracked what I eat, namely coz I don't want to as it takes up too much time and I can't be bothered but I thought I'd have a quick go today by inputting what I normally eat in a day to see where I sat with things on Marks Carb Curve.

To my surprise I'm eating nearly 200 carbs per day which is in the not so good range apparently. I'm actually quite shocked at this coz what I eat is pretty dam healthy. The belows comes out at 114g Protein, 222g Fat and 181g carb.

    Any Thoughts?

Also, is this amount of food and the breakdown good for getting lean and buiding some muscle?

Have a look and see what you think:
1 cup, sections Tangerines, (mandarin oranges), raw X
1 cup, quartered or chopped Apples, raw, with skin X
    1 cup Blueberries, raw X
    150 g Pork, fresh, belly, X
1 cup (8 fl oz) Yogurt, plain, whole milk, 8 grams protein per 8 ounce X
2 parsnip (9" long) Parsnips, cooked, boiled, drained, without salt X
    4 large Egg, whole, cooked, hard-boiled X
    30 g Chocolate, dark, 70-85% cacao solids X
    2 tbsp Blackberries, raw X
    2 tbsp Raspberries, raw X
1 oz (14 halves) Nuts, walnuts, english X
2 cup, chopped Kale, cooked, boiled, drained, with salt X
1 tablespoon Oil, olive, salad or cooking X
1 tsp Butter, without salt X
1 serving 2 tsp Tea, instant, unsweetened, powder, decaffeinated X
1 cup cherry tomatoes Tomatoes, red, ripe, raw, year round average X
2 cup shredded Lettuce, green leaf, raw X
    3 piece (5-1/2" x 1-1/2" x 1/2") Fish, mackerel, salted X
0.5 cup slices Cucumber, with peel, raw X
    2 tbsp chopped Onions, raw

Are you reaching your health goals?

If you find your progress not to your liking tweak it, but if you're happy with where you're headed I'd say don't fix it if it ain't broke.

200g carbs is still lower than most folks, and if your body is responding there's no reason to go OMG VLC!!! 50G KARBS A DAY OR LOWER OMG!!!

But you could drop it lower a bit and see how you feel.

You could start by dropping the apples and tangerines and chocolate. I'd keep the berries if you feel okay...

...and another thing MORE RED MEAT!!!

    Eat a steak.

Cheers mate. My meat choice does vary depending on the day so it could be chicken, steak, lamb etc instead of pork.

I'm fairly happy with my body comp and i lost over a stone when I first started (I was only 13.5 stone in the first place). Wouldn't mind putting on a little more leam muscle mass though.

May try cutting the fruit a bit depending on the day to see if I get leaner but to be honest as long my carbs are coming from fresh sources and not from processed food then I think I'm OK with that. I was just quite shocked that I was over the 150g mark. I really thought I would be below it.

can't see where 181g comes from out of that list...

but yeah, try dropping the fruit a little.

Yeah 3 cups + 4 Tbsp of fruit seems like a lot, plus the parsnips too.

What are your goals? If it's fat loss, then drop those. If you're good, then don't worry about it. Remember, Paleo/Primal is NOT a low carb diet, unless you're trying to lose weight.

Agree with all above, that's a lot of fructose. If you're trying to put on lean mass, I'd suggest switching some of the fruit for starchy carbs-potatos, white rice...

all good suggestions so far. i would second the notion that you should
be eating considerably more dead animals...and lots of bacon too! (:
add that in w/vertically accelerating heavy things a few days a week
and running from here to there a few other days and you should be okay.

Yep, I agree, more dead animals and less fructose.

200g of carbs is fine if you're wanting to put on weight, may even need to push it up if you find it's not working or if you're workouts are suffering.
And I'd certainly add more protein if you want to pack on some muscle.

If you way 12 stone now, as an example, at the recommended 1g of protein per lb of body weight you should be getting around 168g of protein per day.

I'm in the same situation as you. Tracked my food for a few days this week, which has been the first time in ages, and realised I'm averaging around 100g of protein. Have added some canned salmon and cottage cheese to the mix to boost it

I would just swap some of the fruit for root veg like potatoes, yams etc. If you are feeling good, if you are healthy and exercise I wouldn't worry about cutting down your carbohydrate intake. Just track your micronutrients, you are probably hitting them all anyway.
