  • How much protein is too much?

    I usually eat a little more than 100% of my body weight everyday in protein. Will this cause weight gain? I weigh between 111-114lbs. I usually eat between 90-125 grams of protein daily.

    No, it won't. Protein can give you issues if you eat way to much of it, but you're far from that.

        Ditch your scale. It's not helping you. Eating that much protein may cause some weight gain, but if you are lifting heavy things you will build muscle and end up more toned than you started.

          Yes and No.

          Depends on context.

          Are you talking muscle "weight gain" or fat "weight gain"?

          Either option has a yes and no answer as well.

          From the other thread you started about too much fat, I think I know your context.

          Protein will almost never turn to fat. "Extra" protein is almost never turned to glucose. Extra protein is deaminated into ketone like bodies and used for fuel while FFA that would have been used for fuel are stored. Gluconeogenesis only happens in the liver when the liver is already depleted of glycogen and only happens on a need basis.

          125g is a good level if you are looking to "gain weight" in muscle mass.

          If you are gaining fat then you are eating too much period. It's not the protein. It is the fact you are eating too much.

              ha! obsessed? nah. just trying to look and feel my best. if i am 16% BF now, which the scale I used may have been off, then I know getting down to 10-12% is not unreasonable. I am 5'1" tall and weigh 111 on a good day I have "trouble" spots, cellulite on thighs and a little bit of fat on my arms that I could definitely spare I am strong and I want to see my muscles. That being said, If I stay this way for the rest of my life I would be happier then a pig in shit, but if I can make it go away that would rock

                get a set of calipers - those scales are not very accurate for body fat %
