  • Bolthouse Farms juices

I was at the store and I saw these, and they looked tasty so I picked up a 50/50 Berry Bolthouse Farms Juice drink. Would there be anything wrong with these? There is no added sugar, but I presume that the sugar listed on the bottle comes from the natural sugars in the berries and apples and such?

Would these be so bad for a Grok who loves fruit and tends to not eat his veggies?

I'll post a link to what they are.

That's the opposite of Primal. Drink that and you'll have an insulin spike that should make you feel yucky all over. Eat a dang apple instead.

I eat about two pieces of fruit daily at least, but I was missing juice :/

I know what you're talking about. They do look pretty good.

Buuuuuut. They are v. expensive. That gives me pause. And also, these drinks always have more sugar and less fiber than whole fruit. So if whole fresh fruit is better for you and less expensive, why not just get that and make your own smoothies? Less preservatives and shizz that way, too.

I think I'd make a bit more of an exception for those mega-greens type. They usually have a whack of green seaweeds and so forth in them, which is stuff that most people wouldn't get otherwise.

But eh, why not just get into veggies? Raw veggies are really good once you get in the habit of eating them, promise.

Whether these Bolthouse things are primal or not (I'd say no, just because they're packaged and somewhat processed) is kind of beside the point. I think it's more that they're overpriced and they really aren't that good for you.

But they really aren't THAT bad for you either. Better than coke or ice cream or those commercial Jugo Juice-type smoothies that are- I checked- MEGA-sugar bombs.

But I don't think it's efficient to waste your treats/20% on something you're doing to try to get phytonutrients. Get the real thing. Then use your 20% on something that you want to eat just for the hell of it. I'd recommend just buying veg and fruits and having a beer instead. Cheaper AND better for you.

Bolthouse farms smoothies are delicious, and can be a great treat. I like the Green Goodness, and the Berry Goodness, or whatever the berry one is. It's a rare treat.

If I took a twinkie and injected primal fuel into it, would you eat it?

Ha! What a great pickup line. "Can I interest you in a primal injection?"

Juice is the equivalent flour. My eyes, not primal and belongs in the extreme moderation category.

Berry Boost: 30g total carbs, 21g sugar in 8oz. Presumably they come in 16oz bottles. If I'm going for 60 sweet carbs I'll just have a slice of chocolate cake.

I have a bullet blender and will have frozen blueberries w/ coconut milk but I've lost my sweet tooth.

Personally I got no beef with Bolthouse Farms juice. I juice my husband & kid on the C-Boost (1200% vitamin C per serving) whenever they are getting sick. I feel like it helps them either avoid it or get over it faster (and it makes great popsicles!)
There are a lot worse things you could eat.

only if you take me out to dinner first

depends on what you make the primal fuel with. If you can make it whip creamy/mousse-y, then YES!
