  • Cutting out dairy - coconut milk question:

When you guys say you use coconut milk in you coffee or in a protein shake, etc...are you referring to the milk in a can, or the milk that is in the cartons? I'm unsure what to buy...usually i just enjoy almond milk and hwc in the morning cuppa, but im curious about the coconut stuff.

The stuff in the can. That's the real deal. The stuff in the carton is a coconut milk-based beverage.

Look for Thai Kitchen Coconut Milk, or Nature's Forest. They are both in a can and contain minimal ingredients - Coconut milk, water, guan gum.

If you are having problems with dairy read up on the benefits of raw milk. I always thought I had a problem with dairy. I found out the problem was with commercially prepared pasteurized homogenized milk. I can get raw milk from a farm 20 miles away and I have no problem with it. I am limiting carbs right now so I buy raw cream and use it in my tea.

sorry, but I cannot allowed its delicious taste to be maimed by incorrect labeling (lol)

I found a brand called Golden Star Coconut Milk, its ingredients are coconut milk and water only. I bought them the other day when I went shopping, so i'm pleased I chose canned over the carton

Thank you everyone for the help and information! I love this community.

Dangit,,,I just got back from the grocery store and looked at the back of my carton of cocunut milk from so delicious.

organic coconut milk (water, organic coconut cream, guar gum), calcium phosphate, magnesium phosphate, carrageean, guar gum, vitamin A Palmiitate, Vitamin D-2, L-selenomethionine(selenium), zinc oxide, folic acid, vitamin b-12.

Wow, I am not tossing a 3 dollar carton of milk,,,but from here on out cans only

sounds like mainly added vitamins - probably for the vegetarians and vegans who are vitamin deficient!

The added vitamins are to make it appear more like commercial, pasteurized dairy (vit D, and all that). I actually do buy the So Delicious coconut milk stuff every once in a while. Got into it when I was vegan, and continued to like it once I started eating meat again last year. I stay away from too much carrageenan and gums for the most part, but that stuff is decent for lattes if you do coffee. You're better off buying a can of full-fat coconut milk and diluting it if you want something that's not the consistency of heavy cream. Way cheaper that way.

What's wrong with this? It's coconut milk, a natural seaweed-based thickening agent and added vitamins. There's nothing really bad in there at all. Even the cans contain guar gum, and many of them sodium bisulfate.
