  • Today I Missed My Grains

Northern NJ. Dec 9th. Snow (4-5 inches), rain and slush...welcome to the Garden State in the winter time! It's not nearly as bad as the folks in the Mid West are getting hammered but it's a mess around here nonetheless. So I start my day early, as I do every day, walking the dog in this mush, she's loving it, I'm wishing I lived in CA right now! I clean off the car and go inside to the smell of fresh brewed coffee and start to make breakfast. A year ago I would have made a nice big bowl of oatmeal with some honey and blueberries. Today, not having any grains in the house I had 2 hard-boiled eggs chopped up with 1/2 an avocado, 1/4 cup of walnuts and a sprinkle of dried cranberries. Very yummy, very satisfying, filled with "staying power" and all that other good stuff but I still missed my oatmeal. That's the whole story, nothing more. Just thought I'd share. Have a safe and warm day all. :-)

I'm in Boston and I feel your pain! Oatmeal sounds so good right now!

I had 2 fried eggs, some almonds, and coffee.

      Haha!

      You Yanks are so cute.

4 inches has fallen in the last hour.

12 inches projected by the time work is over.

It's 5 F with the windchill right now and I can't see across the street.

Meh, just another winter day in Ottawa Canada.

Oh and as usual I had nothing for breakfast.

I live in Arkansas, and its been rather chilly for December. It actually was in the high 20s the other night!! LOL *snort*. I'm a total wimp nowadays...don't know what I'd do in Canada weather!! YIKES!!

LOL, this thread is making me smile ! My kids love oatmeal, and when my inlaws would visit, I'd make my kids a pot of oatmeal, and when I'd offer some to my FIL he'd say "I've eaten enough mush as a kid to last a lifetime. I won't eat it ever again if I don't have to. I'll be fine until lunch, thanks." LOL!

Of course, now I'm steering my kids away from grains...

          Bah!

In Feb we will have several days in the -40s F with the windchill (not even joking).

Just got back from a minus 10 walk with my Husky! She loves the weather! BUT the last thing I wanted was oatmeal after such a brisk morning start. I am whipping up a spicy and hot and filling egg bake of some sort! To the kitchen!

It's 29 here in our part of Texas. Talked to my brother out in Florida earlier "yeah..it's 73. Going to be 83 later this afternoon".

Damnit! Why'd I move back to Texas?! lol I'm a wuss with "cold" weather.

Try egg drop soup for a warm and comforting breakfast!

I'm glad I'm not a fan of oatmeal since it is my office's staple breakfast. Each morning, I have to smell it all around me and the sweet smell is alluring.

In the SF area there was ice/frost on the ground this morning. It's the coldest it's been since we moved out here from Kansas. I feel ya on the grains but I made bacon-n-eggs instead.

Man, I LOVE that I can do that now and not feel guilty.

kjake - I grew up in North Jersey. I live in Central Jersey now, though.

On the not-so-off topic of grain cravings: today I went to a Japanese restaurant. For some reason I got soup instead of salad, and I didn't like it or eat much. So my entree, teriyaki chicken came but I wasn't quite satisfied. So I figured a LITTLE bit of the white rice wouldn't ruin me. Then I ate almost all of it. Then I had two not-so-pleasant bathroom experiences. So, at least I learned my lesson straight away.

chima_p - I'm in North Bay (a few hours west of Ottawa) and we got dumped on today! I say bring it on though...love the winter and snow!

My brother is right outside of Ottawa (Smith's Falls) and I'm sure he got a tad of snow too.

Just another Canadian day of winter 'round here.

                        I grok, therefore I am.

Socratic - I'm sorry about your rice escapade. I hope you've recovered from it. Hey, maybe us NJ primals should all try a get together one time like people in other states have done...let's see should we go AC or High Point or maybe someplace in between!

KAM904s - I know what you mean about the bacon and eggs. I was out to breakfast the other morning w/hubby and I ordered steak and eggs and LOVED IT!!!

You guys in Canada are a hardy group..I would have defected a long time ago.

LOL...it's a trade off for us Canucks. Free health care for some miserable weather on occasion. But I love the snow so it's all good!
