    I don't mean tubers, like potatoes - I know those aren't optimal. But roots are related to tubers, so I am just curious.


    Sweet potatoes are roots, right? Are they closer to carrots than to actual potatoes?

    I don&#39;t think so. I think people don&#39;t like them around here because of the amount of carbs they have.

      From what I&#39;ve read, people will have them occasionally. Mark even says that yes, it&#39;s okay, but not everyday...more like maybe 2 times a week tops.

        I think that they are definitely good if you are looking to bump up your carbs. Also, I have never heard any reasoning for sweet potatoes not being good for you...just lots of reasons why they are good for you.


        Also, Raphael, check out this thread from another forum on EOD refeeds. From my knowledge of acronyms I have deduced that EOD likely stands for every other day, though that is not for sure. Anyway, check out the info they have over there, as it might be beneficial to what you are trying to do. Post number 5 kinda sums up one way of doing it.

          Interestingly, sweet potatoes have more sugar in them than yams. For 100 grams, sweets have 6 grams where yams have 0. When hunter-gatherer types are written about, it&#39;s usually yams that are referred to, so that&#39;s worth consideration. (I&#39;m currently working on keeping sugars really low, so I&#39;m focused on that.)

            Yams are still quite carb-o-rific. That said, I do eat them a couple of times a week. Sweet Potatoes are hard to find around here, but yams are easy.


            These are for 100g portions (3.5oz) measured raw:


            Sweet Potatoes

            20.12g carb

            3.0g fiber

            4.18g sugar


            Yam

            27.88g carb

            4.1g fiber

            .5g sugar
