  • Milk?

    It's really hot outside (100 degrees) and nothing is more refreshing than a cold glass of full fat milk (or 2 glasses). Milk has about 12g of sugar so that's about 24g of sugar for the 2 glasses. Good or bad if you generally stay below 50g of carbs?

    Maybe full fat yogurt made into a drink is more healthy (water, pinch of salt, yogurt)? I notice it had 8g sugar and 20g fat.

    Milk is fine on occasion or in moderation. I have a little dairy every day. Some of it is cheese, and sometimes milk.

      Once a week, sometimes not even more often than not.

      I found this awesome organic milk called Promised Land milk. A quart cost $3, but it was SO GOOD. I am a milk fiend but I've been just eating cheese lately.

        I only drink raw milk, but I'm not as picky about my cheeses.

            I recently reintroduced milk back into my diet and the occasional jar of peanut butter. I have tweaked my diet to approximately 150 - 200g of carbs a day and my diet is already so damn clean I don't really care about milk and a jar of peanut butter every 3 weeks or so.

              Milk is good if you can find raw milk. It's an amazing, nutritious food. However, I find that pasteurization and homogenization screw with the taste and nutrients. Pasteurization destroys Vitamin C and iodine that milk naturally contains, as well as phosphatase, which you need to actually absorb much of the calcium that milk contains.                 You're taking in 3-4 teaspoons of sugar with each glass...

                Would you consciously do that if asked? I wouldn't think so.

                8-10 teaspoons of sugar for those two glasses - no thanks...

                  If the milk isn't causing you to gain weight, crave high sugar/carb snacks, feel sick or anything like that, I'd say go for it.

                  For me, personally, I'd probably just stick with a single glass. Well, also for me personally, I prefer a nice cold glass of coconut milk instead!

                    I am trying to lose weight, so milk is out right now. Once I'm at goal weight, it will probably re-enter the picture as a treat. Mmmm a frosty glass of milk with peanut butter... *drool***

                      I drink 2 or 3 cups of raw milk each day. I am losing weight and gaining muscle. Raw milk is a wonderful whole food. I hate when people refer to lactose as sugar as if it is that nasty processed white sugar.

                          I drink a liter of whole milk on workout days. It's pasteurized and homogonized, although not ultra-pasteurized. Our grocery store gets fresh milk delivered every other day aswell so that is nice.

                            I cut out dairy because I'm still working on losing, but I really don't enjoy my coffee black, so I might start sneaking a little back in

                              As a kid, I did not get the chance to drink things close to raw milk - I was pretty much addicted to the ultra-pasteurized, sterilized, burnt to ashes and heatened in the microwave crap. At the time, I did not get that much water when I was thirsty. I drank milk instead.
                              When I quit milk in its most common drinking form, it was cold-turkey. And I don't feel like getting back to it.

                              My dairy consumption is limited to various fresh cheeses (yeah, I'm from France, and I consider myself very lucky because of the choice we get ). And sometimes curd. Basically, I stay with fermented versions of milk.
