  • Good sources of copper

    My diet is lacking in copper, what are some good meat (no organ) and non-meat sources? There's some mccormick sesame seed seasoning and sesame seeds have 74% RDA of copper but is that primal?

      Nuts are a decent source, as are shellfish and avocado. Mushrooms are an excellent source of copper. However, the absolute best sources of copper are organ meats.

        Shame you don't like organ meats - liver has copper in abundance. Could you eat a pate with liver in it?

          No, I can't handle organ meats yet. I would have to eat a lot of avocados to meet the daily req.

          What about sesame seeds? (I noticed that it usually "passes straight through" so the copper in them is probably not even absorbed).

              Here's a search return from NutritionData.com about food highest in copper. Go through it and figure it out from there. I'd go for the chocolate, tahini, or oysters, myself.

                Oysters ... I get some canned in water (small cans) and make an oyster stew from them. Also contain zinc to balance the copper.

                  The big issue with sesame seeds is that they pack a hefty wallop of omega-6 fatty acids, so I wouldn't recommend using them as a dietary staple.

                  Have you tried eating heart? It is the must "muscle-y" of the organ meats, and an excellent source of copper.

                  If not, you can always just take a supplement.

                    I bought an organic sunflower seed butter (I think at whole foods). It tastes almost like peanut butter (I like it better). I am not sure what I would put it on now without the bread, maybe celery. Also I read on here about someone having their organ meats ground by the butcher at the grocery store and mixing them with ground beef. The mix 2 parts ground beef to one part organ meat then make things like taco meat or pizza chili or meatza with it.
