  • Should I be concerned?

Today is officially 6 weeks of Primal + Stronglifts for me, and I got a surprise from the scale this morning. Over the past 5 weeks, besides the first week, I've been steadily losing 3-4 lbs, but this past week I've lost 7.2 lbs.

I did make some small changes in food but nothing too major, I replaced ham with bacon (bacon, yum). When I called my mom to let her know (she always waits for my weigh in call on Monday, she is real proud of my progress) she did show some concern about the weight loss. I told her I would be worried if I was tired all the time and starving but I'm not. After each meal I'm full, I have plenty of energy all day. I blast through my workouts, walks and sprints with no problem.

It is a little weird though. Here is my progression so far.

    Week 1: 13.2 lbs lost
    Week 2: 4.4 lbs lost
    Week 3: 4 lbs lost
    Week 4: 4.4 lbs lost
    Week 5: 3.6 lbs lost
    Week 6: 7.2 lbs lost
    Age: 24
    Height: 6'2
Primal start date: April 1st 2011
    Start Weight: 300.4 lbs
    Current Weight: 226 lbs (1/16/2012)
    Goal weight: 205 lbs
Total lost so far: 74.4 lbs

I had a similar event on a smaller scale. I've been losing an average of 1-2# a week (though I admit I don't weigh myself every week), but last week I suddenly lost 4# in 5 days. No explanation, and I feel great, so I'm not worried about it.

You have numbers similar to The Biggest Loser show, you must be working hard. Great job!

Yea that's what I figured, and thanks, I appreciate it.

@ TheDarkMistress, I guess it's just one of those unexplainable things then lol. I like to think I'm working hard, each week I see the pounds come off and that just makes me push that much harder the next week, knowing that what I'm doing is working. And thank you, best of luck on your goals as well!

Primal+good barbell training is ridiculously powerful, especially for big guys.

@ Sue, yea i did. I was 300.4 pounds on April 1st. I was not eating well at all. The week before I started I kept eating like I always do but this time writing everything down. Easily going through a bag of Doritos in one sitting, eating 2-3 hot pockets, plus lots of sugars from snack bars, candy etc. When I saw the actual numbers I was extremely disappointed in myself, even more so after the first weigh in @ 300.4 lbs. I was eating around 4000-4500 calories and around 300-350g of carbs, lots of sugar as well, each day.

@Apex Predator, That is for sure lol. I love the simplicity of stronglifts, but those that have done it know that simple doesn't mean easy, those lifts start getting crazy when the weight starts going up.

plus I figure that first week was half water anyway.

                Looks good!

I started at over 300 too. I was averaging 20lb/month for a while.

I was a photojournalist in a motosport and started at the end of our season, and by the time the next season started, I had lost about 80 lb since people saw me last. It was fun answering all the questions about what happened. A lot of people I knew very well didn't recognize me.

@DFH, That's awesome man! I look forward to that day, must be a huge confidence boost as well. I figured I'd be losing a good bit for the first few months, I also expect it to really start slowing down the closer I get to my ideal weight.

Thanks Dragonfly. These first few weeks have really been a ride. I've gone through 2 birthday parties plus a mothers day and Easter dinner without eating one bite of non primal food. Even surprised my grandparents when I turned down red velvet cake (used to be my favorite). I'm just determined to stay the course and achieve my goals. I really look forward to the journey still ahead.
