  • Coconut oil is evil...

So, y'all have been going on how great coconut oil is for the gut and yadda yadda yadda. So I manned (?womaned?) up and downed a spoonful before breakfast.

It was only a teaspoon and I've been sick to my stomach all day.

So, is there a special way to take coconut oil? Or is this stuff only for the hard core tough primal peeps cause man, its been a long day.

I've found that when I eat too much protein, or too much fat, I have to balance it out with a tiny bit of carbs. I got really nauseous after egg white & bacon yesterday. Had 1/4 cup berries and felt MUCH better.

I get nauseaus if I eat coconut oil in the morning by itself. I usually cook eggs in it in the morning.

I think you should try to work it into your diet by using it to cook with...I've been using the stuff for months and I've never downed a shot of it. I think it's great for cook--not so great for shooting. Also, I have a very sensitive stomach and it doesn't appear to bother me at all....maybe it was something else you ate in the morning that got that tummy so upset. Just a thought...

Technically it's whatever the coconut killed that's the evil one.

I too felt horrible sick to my stomach after eating coconut oil. I think I need something in my stomach before haveng any, which I find hard to do since I put a teaspoon into coffee now.. and usually have my coffee before eating anything. What to do.. what to do...

oh, well there's my first mistake. I thought you had to take it straight to get all the super good stuff, and cooking with it was just for the fat.

Stabby, I am willing to suffer if thats it. Die bad stuff die!!

You need to ease into coconut oil. It's anti-viral, so if you have anything growing inside you, it could cause discomfort. It's also one of the only sources of lauric acid, and it's 50% lauric acid at that. You may not be used to digesting it.

I would recommend easing into coconut oil. Do this by incorporating coconut milk into things. A great little shake is to take a cup and a half of unsweetened almond milk, add 4 tablespoons of coconut milk from a can and a cinnamon stick. Let it sit in the fridge for a little to marinate and it makes a great little dessert drink. Start adding coconut milk to chicken. Cook your beef and eggs in coconut oil. After a little while, you'll be able to stomach coconut oil. I can take entire tablespoons with ease and I always clean the chunks off the spoon with my tongue after I'm done adding it to things. Hell, I drank a whole can of coconut milk with dinner on Tuesday. You'll get used to it. It'll just take a little while.

Yeah, you have to ease into it. I got an upset stomach, runny stools, and just an all-around gross feeling when I first started using coconut products. Now I can handle an entire can of coconut milk or three tablespoons of straight oil without a problem. I don't, but I can.

when I downed my first coconut milk with berries on day 1 of going primal, I felt weird/off in the stomach for a few hours. I then searched on this forum and realised others had similar experiences, something to do with the good lauric acid which is great for your stomach. You will get used to it, just ease into it. I can happily drink a can of coconut milk/cream these days and eat coconut oil by the spoonful.

I get really naseous when I ate it straight before. But yesterday I tried this: I warmed up half a cup of water, then melted a tablespoonful of coconut oil in it. Then I added a healthy dash of cinamon, and a few drops of lemon juice and a shake of salt. It went down pleasantly, and no upset stomach. I did this 3 times yesterday, and no problems.

I really like the little blocks of creamed coconut that I can get at my grocery store. A tablespoon or two makes a nice little snack.

The only way I can eat coconut oil without cooking with it is to make bark out of it. I melt a coconut oil with dark chocolate and then freeze it. Sometimes I'll add nut butter, or do nut butter and oil and cocoa powder.

But I can't eat it straight.
