• How much fish oil must I take?

Right now, I take one pill of 1000mg of which only 600g are EPA and DHA. Is there a recommended amount one must take?

Only one a day? Well, I take 6 pills of 300g (1,800g per day) because I eat a lot of commercial meats (and NUTS!!!)

I think that's enough for me!

LOL. I think I read somewhere that 2-3g is good. If you go above that then its suggested youll have bleeding issues. I take 2 a day (1.2g total O3) and also eat a lot of greens and fish so I think Im good.

Maybe I should cut myself to see if Im getting too much...? Im just super curious now! Lol.

I was taking four, 1,200 mg caps a day, but seemed to be having clotting issues at that. I cut back to 2.

@TT: I actually performed that experiment by accidentally slicing my shin open while shaving my legs. It was interesting, but not pretty :-(

That's why I cut down to 2,400 mgs per day...no problems at that level for me. I try to eat fish meals a couple of times a week, but the meat I can get is not always grass-finished.

Tara, I've had bleeding issues forever. It takes hours for my cuts to clot. Btw, I read on Stephan's blog that one must drink a wineglass full of fish-oil everyday to experience the Inuit syndrome.

I'm giggling at the though of hooking oneself up to a fish oil I.V. drip to get that daily 6 kg of oil...

I go to about 4g most days but that's partially because I also take about 2g of borage oil daily. Even though GLA is anti-inflammatory I try to balance its O6s with slightly higher O3.

Omg! Now I remember once a few weeks ago I cut myself while shaving and the bastard wouldn't stop bleeding for a looong time, which made me arrive 30 minutes late to class... haha

I've been taking 3g a day but not every single day (sometimes I forget).

I will start taking less once my grass-fed beef gets here. Mmm...

Maba: I think he was aying that to get insane high amounts you have to drink a glass. BUT I do remember reading that 4g has the potential to cause bleeding somewhere...

I think 1-2g/day is sufficient for most people. You may not even need to supplement if you eat strictly grass-fed meats/eggs and you don't eat many nuts etc. I take ~2g/day since I had depression issues in my youth (and the fish oil has helped tremendously) even tho' I do stick w/ grass-fed meats. My understanding is that different people have different absorption ability for omega-3...so I may be on the lower-side.

You know... I should know this...

But I have fish oil tabs that are 1,000 mg of fat.

But only 300 mg of Omega 3.

What the heck is the remaining 7,000?

It seems most of them are not *pure* Omega 3.

                          Any ideas?

                          Thanks!

Sean, I read somewhere that even fish oil is not comprised entirely of o3, it has some o6 too, like 3:1 IIRC.

                              maba,

                              I hope it's not too much O-6.

Cause if it's even half O-6, that really negates a lot of the benefits.
