  • Which is the lesser of the evils

so if you're in a bind, canola is better than soy oil right? Anything's better than soy, I think. Just checking.
Oh and where does safflower oil fall on the primal spectrum?

Canola oil is way better than soybean oil if you're forced to choose between them.

Go by least PUFA content, that's what we're trying to keep within a reasonable range. Canola>safflower>soybean.

PUFAs aside, I avoid soy because of my thyroid. Soy=bad!

In the quantities that I eat them, I can't believe that it matters. I'd only worry if I was going to eat a lot. I'm struggling to imagine a situation where that would happen ...

Where would you be in a situation where you needed to eat one of these?

I don't get the question - in my house, there just are no veg oils except olive oil, which is used for salads. Otherwise there is lard and butter ... so a choice like this doesn't come up. Unless I'm eating out, in which case it is most likely soy oil, but so rarely it probably doesn't matter.

was trying to find a mayo that was soy free (it's hard, unless you make your own). Found one with canola and another with safflower. I chose the safflower one.

How about sunflower oil and sesame oil? Where do they fit in the scheme of things?

There's mayos made with Extra Virgin Olive Oil if you can find it. Tastes really good too.

Making your own takes like 60 seconds. What's the problem?

Yes, I feel your pain. I saw Hellman's made with EVOO and I got so excited till I saw the ingredient list - soybean oil! Arghh!
