  • Mystery Meat

My local source for pastured meat recently began offering what they call a Pet Box, a 10lb assortment of organ meats and bones. I received mine this week. Along with the oxtail, the giant bag of bones, and the pork necks were three packages of what looks like ground beef... but I suspect it isn't. Quite.

I'm going to eat it anyway. Wish me luck!

Yeah, I got some beef liver chunks and beef heart chunks from my range fed beef supplier that were labeled "pet food". Much cheaper than "people" food.
It tasted the same as people food. Nice that they hold the low worth in our current culture. Lets stop telling people about primal eating so we can still buy the cheap stuff for awhile longer eh?? hahaha

Tell us how it turns out!
I made oxtail in the slow cooker for the first time this week. Possibly one of the most delicious things I've ever tasted.
          Everything in moderation, including moderation.

This reminds me of when I went to a lunch with some colleagues in Madrid. One of the guys couldn't quite figure out what kind of meat he was eating. He asked the waiter: "qué tipo de carne ?" (What kind of meat ?) To this, the waiter replied: "carne" (meat).

Probably horse and he didn't want your friend to freak out (assuming your friend is not Spanish).

P.S. I hope he didn't response "cane" and you misheard!

edit: forget that comment. I assumed it was the same Italian -> Spanish. Just looked it up, it's not.

I wish I had the stomach to stomach that kind of stuff. Just not happening. I tried sashimi for the first time yesterday, while it tasted very good, I miss my California roll. Baby steps...

LMAO! Would a low-fat raw vegan count as grass-fed?

My grass-fed supplier has some ground pet food: 75% beef muscle, 15% beef fat, 10% assorted organs (liver, kidneys, heart). Plan on getting a couple of pounds this weekend to try it out.

I don't know the breakdown on mine; they say "mostly organ meat". Could include beef, pork, and/or goat.
