  • Hair, Nails, & Skin, Oh Yeah!

Since going Primal appx. 4 months ago, in addition to the insane fat loss, energy levels, and great sleep, I have noticed that my hair has been growing much faster and is much healthier. My nails are growing much faster, and my skin is never dry and looks great! Anyone else experiencing any of this good stuff? Loving being Primal!

Yup, same here. The hair and nails growing faster, while appreciated as an indicator of improved health, is annoying as hell because I have to trim them more often. But the skin improvement is nice.

For the first time in about a decade my hair feels thicker than it did the previous month.

How long does it normally take before you start noticing these benefits?

Hair especially takes many months for the effects of the change to work themselves out. What happened to me, from a starting point of thinning hair, was first that the loss slowed right down, then it fell out like hair was going out of fashion, and finally stabilised with much less loss than ever before. I think I'm getting some more coverage - hooray! Also, individual strands are thicker, and split ends have gone from about 9/10 hairs to about 1/20. Neat. But the definitely positive signs didn't become clear for at least 6 months.

I've been doing this for six weeks - still waiting for nails and hair - but my partner told me yesterday that my skin was looking great. He's never said that before.

Hmmmm, not noticed my nails but I've had my hands in so much grout, mortar mix, been covered in paint, so they're a mess most of the time. And my hair has always been really thick. I wish it would thin out. I get my hair cut every six weeks (I wear it really short) and my hairdresser is always amazed at how much hair I have. I have to have it thinned out. My skin, OTOH, looks pretty good.

I've got this little experiment going on right now with my thumb nails. For years now I've had wavy nails with horizontal indentations. About a month into PB I noticed my nails seems to be flatter--no indentations. Then I went on vacation for a week, PB went out the window, and a week later, an indentation. Now I'm watching this little dent in my nail as it grows out and waiting patiently to see if another one forms. I like to think that the indentation is caused by some nutrient deficiency that all the grain and dairy and junk causes. If my hypothesis holds and no new dents form, then this to me is a pretty strong indicator that I'm on the right track, food intake wise. And my nails look way better!

My nails have got worse, but I think that's because I started a new job and I have to use nasty antibacterial soap. The white spots went away though (which I've had all my life despite 10 years of zinc supplementation). They came back when I reintroduced dairy for a while, which was interesting.

I think my hair is growing faster too. I only hennaed 3 and a bit weeks ago and I can already clearly see roots.

Amazing nail growth, to include less breakage etc! I had to cut my nails back yesterday b/c they were getting so long, they were interfering with typing. 2-3yrs ago I would have put on gel nail extensions for that now I just cut them back and file them so they are pretty and it two weeks I've got long nails again. Haven't notice any difference in hair growth - but we'll see if I need a hair cut in 2months time... I usually go every 3-4months... but this new short style I've got may require more maintenance... If It does I may go back to my short sleek style thats all 1 length.. we'll see

My boyfriend has had issues with bad dandruff and itchy red scaly patches on his scalp. Nothing seemed to help. Once we have gone primal his scalp has cleared up (no red patches at all!) and he doesn't have dandruff. He has been eating this way for about 3 weeks.
