  • Help! Need quick opinion on a salmon in my freezer -- too old?

    I just found a nice wild salmon in the back of my freezer that I forgot about. I've thawed it, but I'm unsure whether its worth it to cook it up. Its a month past its "best before" date. It was bought frozen, and kept frozen. I think I bought it 2-3 months ago.

    Should I fire up the BBQ and cook it, or would that be a waste?

    It smells fishy, but not terrible.

    Help!!

            Stuff keeps in the freezer for ages, and even when it goes "bad", it doesn't really go bad. It just gets dried out and tastes yucky. I've eaten stuff thats been in the freezer for a couple of years and its just fine.

              I ate a chicken thigh that was in the fridge for a month.

              I was 17 and we had chicken thighs baked in cream of mushroom soup for dinner. I left for the evening and when I got home (drunk), I was looking for some grub. I found a tupperware container with a chicken thigh in it. I ate it.

              The next morning, Mom was looking in the fridge and noticed the container was gone (I mean, it was in there for a month, sheesh.) She asked me how I was feeling. I told her I was feeling fine. She then told me the chicken I ate was a month old. All I could do was wait. Nothing. The end.

                I've reheated chili from the bowls of my freezer after a year+ on ice with no ill effects. Of course, that was well sealed, and promptly refrigerated after cooking.


                Who am I kidding.
                It sat on the stove for 2 hours after dinner before I threw it in the fridge for two days of leftovers. Once I was sick of it, deep freeze the last two servings.


                Yeah, I'm a bachelor....

                    When we were teenagers and by default, always hungry, my bro and I went scavenging for food. Parents were out somewhere for the day. We settled on a huge mess of sort of scrambled eggs with cheese that wasn't quite an omlette, but it was mighty tasty. Mum and Dad returned home, said "where did you get eggs". The downstairs fridge of course. Apparently those eggs were something over 9 months old. We didn't notice any difference, and were totally fine.
