  • Raw Milk

I've been toying with the idea of purchasing raw milk and pasteurizing it myself. My only question, will the milk sugar raise my insulin levels, or will it have te similar effect that the sugar in fruit has? Anyone here ever use raw milk? Thanks!

If you're going to get raw milk, why the HELL would you even consider pasturizing it?

A guy I work with told me that's what he did as a child and it made the milk taste so much better.

+1. Pasteurizing raw milk kills the beneficial bacteria in it, and degrades other nutrients, including the proteins. There are many reports of individuals with milk sensitivities being able to digest raw milk with no problems. (It contains lactase, which is destroyed by the heat of pasteurization, so even some lactose-intolerant individuals can handle raw milk in typical quantities.)

More to your question, there is research that suggests dairy products bump up insulin levels.

Look into it before you do it.

Raw milk tastes better than pasturized milk. It's different, but it's only better 'cooked' til your tastebuds adjust. Then pasturized milk will forever taste burnt.
Nevermind the obvious nutritional benefits of NOT pasturizing it...Vitamin C, Wulzen factor, B12, all are destroyed by pasturizing, and the minerals become less absorbable.

Never mind the (beneficial) bacteria and enzymes, which is why lactose intolerant people can often tolerate raw milk. Goat mik, though, is a little different, unless you are certain you have a CAE-free herd.
