    If you go to the doctor and he Rx a laxative or tells you to drink more water and to eat more whole grains, then yes, that is a waste of money. If you think there's a problem, get an x-ray. If you're not having gas or pain after 3 weeks, things are not working or there is an obstruction.

    Onthebayou-do you think he needs to go to a doctor? lol.

    It was mentioned earlier but I'll mention it again. Take magnesium citrate(not oxide)until you hit bowel tolerance, that could be anywhere from 400-2000mg. Start with 600mg and increase by 200mg every 3 days.

      Did I mention, get to a doctor???

      All of these suggestions - and I started way back with a stool softener - cannot address something serious going on. They might effect something in his colonic health plus or minus some degree, but they cannot, I think be responsible for a three week constipation.

      I mean, most Americans on their SAD aren't having issues.

        Eyeshield...You are getting an insane amount of protein man! 216g a DAY?! Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've heard that too much excess protein will be converted into glucose...How many ounces of meat do you eat a day? You should try eating about HALF that amount in protein and about TWICE your usual amount in fat...

          Definitely the fat. Ordered the fattiest cuts of meat during a family outing (I'm sure everyone is familiar with the "you're eating ALL of that?!" stares...)

          Moving three days in a row now

          @chima_p

          Missed that. Adding veggies...in butter

          @Jess

          I read...the horror. Cutting protein ASAP

          @OTB

          Yes I have an appointment with a doctor. Will update soon

            OnTheBayou--I agree he should probably go to a doctor just to be safe.

            I think you'd be surprised how many people out there who do not poop on a regulat basis, I'm talking like once a month. Jaw drop, yes, how do they function? I don't know, but it happens more than you might think, for lots of reasons. Lots of emergency room patients are people who are plugged up, many can't remember the last time they had a bowel movement. Sadly, doctors almost always scratch their heads and give the wrong advice or just Rx a laxative.

            Eyeshield, I hope all goes well at the appt., we are all curious to know how things turn out.

                probiotic and the magnesium citrate on my shopping list

                Btw I was looking into how increase my fat to protein ratio, I read here themost popular ways are butter, coco oil and olive oil but I was looking at the o3-o6 ratios:

                http://www.nutritiondata.com/facts/dairy-and-egg-products/133/2

                Not really optimal right? Any other suggestions, besides taking an o3 supplement?

                  eyeshield,

                  Remember that all these folks are just looking out for your health and safety and have the best intentions at heart but...

                  I don't think any of them know what a psmf is. If you follow the advice given here you will no longer be in a psmf. If you are still wanting to do a psmf then definatly follow the advice for free meals and refeeds only. We are similar in size so I suggest:

                  c = 30g leafy greens, broccoli, cauliflour, celery, etc you know the list. For free meals and refeeds go as high as 150g. I use fruits to do this.

                  P = 170g - 200g I don't know your activity level. Keep this level even on free meals and refeeds.

                  f = whatever comes from the meat. Keep it lean (you know the list) during psmf meals. Eat the fatty meats for free meals and refeeds. DON'T FORGET YOUR OMEGA 3s!

                  Also, for me the psmf is really not working any better than a more moderate ketogenic diet. I am going to do this again when I need (want) to push into single digit body fat.

                      It is a protein sparring modified fast.

                      Depending on your lean body mass only about 800 calories per day average.

                      It is an extreme Ketogenic diet only to be used short term unless morbidly obese.

                      Not recomended for most people.

                      More of a bodybuilding sub-culture type of thing.

                      A loss of 20lbs in 2 weeks is not unheard of. 10lbs of which is fat the other water that you will gain back when you consume higher carbs and maint cal.

                          No, not holy protein just regular protein

                          If he lowers protein and increases fat he is no longer doing a psmf.

                          But for sure, free meals and refeeds should have more fat.

                            Please to hear that things have moved along. Its a good idea to get checked out by the doc, hope it all goes well. I agree with the use of magnesium. From what I understand you take two and then increase daily dose unitil diahorea kicks in then back off until the movement looks normal and is a bit more regular. Also try massaging your tummy in an clockwise direction, I've found that that moves things along as well. I tend to massage quite firmly using the heel of my hand.

                              Update!

                              Doctor says my blood results are "perfectly normal", better than average for my age even. Triglycerides to fasting glucose all normal. The conversation went something like:

                              Doc: Great scores!

                              Me: Thanks I...

                              Doc: I'd advise you to just keep doing what you're doing, you know eat a balanced diet, lots of whole grains, veggies, eat the good fats, but keep them low though and of course, regular exercise.

                              Me: Uhh...

                              Doc: Just keep doing what you've been doing.

                              Me:...uh...ok

                              On another note I've dropped the psmf. Was REALLY effective while I was on it.

                              Time: 3 weeks (Oct 1 - Oct 30)

                              Weight loss: 25 lbs (gained 5 back)

                              Training output: slightly improved (?!)

                              My only regret: Why oh why did I not take proof pictures?

                              And...it's my birthday today! Insisted the whole family have a meat-all-you-can dinner (ala Man v food Baltimore)

                                Happy BD! You survived another year even with a world's record constipation!

                                Loved your conversation!

                                I'll be with my kids in Houston in a week or so for oldest daughter's 40th BD. I've told them I want a cake made from chicharrones.....
