  • affordable protein powder?

is there any protein powder on the market that isn't insanely expensive? I'd like to up my protein without having to always eat meat (cause I'm getting tired of meat, and it's so darn expensive!) but the powders seem super expensive too!

This lifestyle is so expensive.... I'd like to eat right, but damn grains were so much cheaper...

When you're eating enough meat, you won't need powders.

I'm not sure how it compares on a $/gram of protein basis, but consider adding eggs as a cheap protein source. When I first started lifting weights I ate a minimum of 4 raw eggs every day in my protein shakes. I do admit that these were either conventionally-raised eggs or the "extra omega-3" eggs, but never organic. These days, I eat so many eggs that I don't pay the big bucks for the organic ones, either.

I recently started lifting again and have a protein drink immediately after workouts, but I'm much less of a die-hard, "Eat all the protein I can" sort of guy. These days my protein shakes are coconut milk + 1 scoop whey + 1 raw egg + water for volume and it's delicious.

Some people worry about salmonella, but I've probably eaten over 900 raw eggs in my life and never gotten sick. Even if I do get sick, salmonella poisoning is rarely fatal unless you're elderly or have a weak immune system.

Undenatured whey has benefits you cannot get from meat sources of protein. The two that stand out are lactoferrin and immunoglobulins. Plus, a good undenatured whey is likely going to boost glutathione more than any other protein source.

There are a few good whey protein sources online that are fairly inexpensive, TrueProtein.com is the first that comes to mind.

You can get a 5 lb bag of EAS 100% whey protein at BJs for around $25 but it has some artificial stuff in it.
