  • Is it okay to grind up multivitamins?

I don't see why it wouldn't be, but I really can't swallow those pills whole, I have terrible gag reflexes. So can I use a mortar and pestle or something to grind it up and mix it into a drink or something?
I know there are chewable multivitamins, but the Centrums have hydrogenated soybean oil and the only other half decent non-children's multivitamin I have found are missing a few things.
Again, this might be a stupid question, but I just want to be sure before I grind up 20 dollars worth of pills.
    Thanks guys!

I could do that, but I would have to cut them up extremely small. Cutting them makes the edges rough which makes them even harder to swallow, it would just be a lot easier to grind them up.

Liquid multi vitamins are also available. I don't see any reason as to why grinding pills would reduce their integrity.

In general, tablets are worthless. Chances are you don't digest them completely anyways.

I would suggest going ahead and grinding them up. At least then you might get some use out of them. Gelcaps are awesome but are big, so maybe you should opt for a liquid because of the swallowing issue. You could always blend it into a smoothie or something.

Hey guys, I did not think about liquid multivits. Here are three that I have found that look decent, thoughts? Or other recommendations?
Buy Nature's Plus Source of Life Red, Multi-Vitamin & Mineral Liquid, Mixed Berry Online at drugstore.com

Buy Nature's Way Alive Liquid Multi, Citrus Flavor Online at drugstore.com

I think I definitely need one with copper and readily absorbable vitamin A and C, as they seem to be a little bit lacking in my diet.

Diana, do you think that eating tablets with big meals or at a certain time of day make them more digestible?

I doubt it. The problem is that they're all packed together, so you digest part of it but not the whole thing. Grinding it up takes care of that problem, it would seem. Personally I don't want to take the time and effort, so I've always bought supplements and medications in gelcap or liquid form.

This isn't where I first heard of this, but it does make the same point.
