  • Convinced the wife to not feed the baby grains!!!

Well actually it was alot of what I said and the very little the pediatrician had to say. We were their for the babies checkup and shots (she will 5 months on the 28th). I ran it by the doc about how I didn't want to feed the baby grains. Of course she is a CW doctor so she was like oh no you should feed her rice which will keep her full but bind her up, then barley or oatmeal to get her past the constipation. So I said you want me to give her something that you and I both know will make her constipated? My nephew eats CW and rice made him constipated for a week. She said well yes that is how you introduce them to grains and the oatmeal will clear it all up. My response then was well what would she be missing out on if we didn't give her grains? Here is the best part and what changed my wifes mind. She replied with um um .......... well you know nutritional stuff. I did everything I could to keep in the laughter. I then asked what exactly is nutritional stuff? Then I got NOTHING. Just a blank stare.

Needless to say my wife said grains were a no go and my wife who was 80% primal is now 100%. Two birds one stone baby. So far Cora loves sweet potato, squash, avacado, and green beans. Put some carrots in her mouth and she screams like you lit her on fire though lol. Ok I'm done.

              Cora is a pretty name!

I skipped the cereal with mine, too. She eats some grains, but only a fraction of what your average American kid eats. She's two now and fights me on almost all vegetables, but she eats a TON of meat and fruit.

Its kinda funny because I didn't think she would like avacado or green beans. I guess because anything green most kids won't eat. We are going to try boiling and pureeing our own carrots before we give them up. She eats organic baby food and we make some as well. The carrots were the baby food so we will try again and hope she likes them.

I can't wait to get my garden going so I can grow some "nutritional stuff".

                    Oh, that's a winner..."nutritional stuff"! LOL!

We have a baby that will be 5 months old in just over a week as well. We have also made the decision to just skip the grains all together as well! I was clueless with my other three children and two of them had horrible constipation problems. I have suffered with chronic constipation my entire life and never knew it was the grains that was doing it until after my second child was born.

Homemade baby food is super easy to make and then you KNOW what's in it and it's not watered down like the stuff in a jar. Bananas and avocado are great first foods and they are easy to cut into small pieces and let baby pick them up and chew one them (baby over 6 months is typically ready for this type of thing).

Good for you guys for questioning the grains for baby and choosing the healthier choice! You will be able to enjoy a happy baby who doesn't suffer with clogged pipes!

Well the other reason they say to give the baby grain cereal is because it keeps them full longer so they sleep longer. Since she was about two weeks old Cora has slept 12 hours a night. Sometimes she sleeps longer lol. She takes great three hour naps during the day and everything.

She can roll over, holds her head up while on her belly, tries to crawl, stands (supported) all day, is extremely alert, talks and talks and talks (not words yet), never cries, sleeps great, and is healthy. I'm sure it is kid specific and diet but my nephew who eats CW never sleeps, always is fussy because he is constipated, and can't roll over. He can pick his head up if you put him on his belly, but over all he is a sack of wheat lol.

I told my wife if we have another it will be a boy and he will be a demon haha.

Boston, my girl could be yours' sister-hubby and I are almost scared to have another.

Since going primal I've offered kiddo so many things I'd have never even attempted if we'd stayed with the CW diet. Stuff like kale (heck, it was the first time I ate it!), brussel sprouts, onions, beets....she is always willing to at least taste and it seems the darker green it is the more likely she'll gobble it up. I have to say, this primal diet is awesome!! It also fits in perfectly with baby-led weaning, we've never had purreed food and never had to deal with the mess and spitup I've seen some of my friends go through.
