  • Heavy Cream Bad?

So on another weight loss/health forum I'm on, I mentioned my "Super Nog" as a way to get 1200 cals pretty much instantly, with plenty of protein, and not feel hungry all day long. My super nog contains a half pint of heavy whipping cream, 6 eggs, vanilla, and nutmeg. A few days ago, I asked on here if HWC was a good choice for fats, and the general consensus was "Yum, go for it!", but I got knocked down on this other forum for mentioning it b/c it's loaded with saturated fat.
Is my super nog bad? I thought it was the perfect post-workout snack/meal with all of its protein, virtually nonexistent carbs, and delicious fat.

CW does not like saturated fats. If the forum is CW then they will say it is bad. You, luckily, know better.

I use HWC in so many things, I chuckle in the face of those that get snooty about it. Remember, CW+HWC=bad. PB+HWC=good.

I use 35% cream since I think it's about the highest % possible while still being liquid'ish. Higher fat = better, like Georgette said.

That said, I don't think fats are what most people go for post-workout. That might be a good question to field in the Fitness forum, actually. Most people I know try to reduce fats more than they otherwise would and up carbs a bit.

Oh, good. Cuz I thought my Super Nog was pretty flipping awesome. As much protein as any powder you will find on the market, only dirt cheap (50c for HWC, 80c for 1/2 dozen eggs, spices already in my well-stocked cabinet).

My goal is to keep tweaking it to make it even thicker, but keeping the ingredients the same. I think whipping the egg whites and the HWC separately helped yesterday. Pre-diet anything (CW/PB), I was an egg nog hound, but the stuff at the store is so bad for you, IMO. Homemade nog can be so much better, cheaper, and healthier!

Patrick, I kind of fell off the PB horse for a few weeks, so I'm trying to teach my body to enjoy fats instead of carbs again. I'm a monster when I get home from gym, just absolutely ornery until I eat something. I thought maybe something that was high protein and high fat would be a good choice?

Post workout, I've always stuck pretty much with proteins maybe some starchy carbs. That was in the past. We'll see what happens next week since I've ditched starchy carbs.

This is why I love this place. *sips her espresso and HWC over ice* The HWC is my go-to when I'm needing to feel full and don't have time to prepare a steak. There's something about cow fat that is so satiating.

Exactly, Slinky! The other day I had Super Nog for breakfast, and was fine until dinner, 8 hours later. It was a first for me!

I wish I could handle egg nog or even the primal nog but sadly to me its like swallowing glue.

Recipe? And is consuming raw eggs OK? And is it sweet at all?

Yeah, hubby LOATHES nog (too thick, he says). I spent the first 8 years of our marriage trying to get him to LIKE it. Not happening. Fortunately, he's still a sport about most of my other concoctions.

Just posted recipe in recipe forum under Super Nog! I've had this concoction several days in the past week & have had no adverse effects from raw egg. It is sweet, thanks to the vanilla, but not overpowering.

If I'm going to have some nog, there better be some alcohol with it.

One scoop of your basic protein powder has about 25-30 grams of protein and about two hundred calories give or take. HWC is very calorie dense probably more towards the rare treat-desert end of the spectrum rather than a snack or post workout drink.

Raw eggs - pastured farm eggs - most likely ok. Conventional chickenssqueezedintoabox - higher risk.
